Auditions
Universal Orlando Resort is now accepting submissions for Scareactors, Stilt Walkers, and Puppeteers for Halloween Horror Nights. All sizes and looks are needed. Scareactor candidates must be comfortable working in dim or theatrical lighting, fog effects, and large crowds. Previous scareacting experience is not required. Stilt Walkers and Puppeteers should have prior experience. All candidates must submit a headshot, resume, current full-length photo, and audition video via the theme park’s official casting website by Midnight EDT on May 31st, 2023.
U.S. Haunts & Events
Fear Factory SLC (Salt Lake City, UT) has paid off outstanding school lunch balances for children at two local elementary schools. “It breaks my heart when I hear my grandchildren talk about kids in their classes that can’t eat school lunch because they have run up outstanding balances,” Fear Factor CEO Bob Dunfield said. “Hearing these stories led us to find ways to help combat this problem and as we looked into ways to help this year, we realized the need is greater than ever and we wanted to do something that would make a bigger impact on the community.”
This Mother’s Day Weekend (May 12th – 14th), Zombie Joe’s Underground Theatre Group (North Hollywood, CA) invites audiences to take a heartfelt and terrifying trip into a crazed mother’s domain, as she tries to make sense of the world and, to the best of her ability, raise her unruly children. Mother is a full-contact, immersive experience for audiences ages 18+ that seeks to understand generational trauma and its effects on family. Featuring Jorge Lozano & Linnea Swanson, Mother explores the many facets of parental grief and trauma, and how our relationships with the one who brought us into this world colors every other relationship we will have. Tickets are on sale now for $25 online, $30 at the door.
On October 19th & 26th, The Abbey (Orlando, FL) will present Candlelight: A Haunted Evening of Halloween Classics. Candlelight concerts bring the magic of a live, multi-sensory musical experience to awe-inspiring locations. The 65-minute program will feature the Listeso String Quartet playing Halloween favorites including: Thriller, Funeral March of a Marionette, Ghostbusters (Theme), Dance Macabre, and more. Tickets are on sale now for $35 – $55 each.

Busch Gardens Tampa Howl-O-Scream’s Mayhem Flash Sale is happening now through Sunday, May 14th. Get two tickets for just $36.99 each (must purchase 2+ tickets to receive the discount). Howl-O-Scream takes place select nights September 8th – October 31st.

Conventions & Mixers
The Texas Haunters Convention (Mesquite, TX) is celebrating its fifth year by announcing that they have sold out all 138 vendor spaces. “It shows the excitement and thirst for Halloween-themed activities here in the Lone Star State,” said Culley Franks, Events Coordinator. “The Texas Haunters Convention is definitely a unique experience for haunt fans.” The Texas Haunters Convention returns to the Mesquite Convention Center on July 15th & 16th. Tickets are on sale now.
Film & TV
The trailer for Haunt Season (directed by Jacob Jarvi) was released this week. The new feature-length horror film was shot at Realm of Terror Haunted House in Round Lake Beach, IL. Here is the sinister synopsis: Recent acting school graduate Matilda is so desperate for any acting job that she takes a position as a scalped woman in a haunted attraction. As she’s introduced to the wide variety of weird and wonderful characters that populate the haunt world, a costumed killer picks off cast members one by one, bringing the injuries they fake for the haunt to gory reality. On Halloween night, the killer unleashes a whirlwind of violence on anyone visiting the haunt, bringing the terrifying sacrificial origins of All Hallows Eve’ into the modern-day. It’s up to Matilda and her new friends to stop the killer.
