In an official video released last week, Efteling has revealed the construction progress on the new Danse Macabre attraction and Huyverwoud haunted forest area. The new area replaces the former Spookslot Haunted House. Designer Jeroen Verheij has been closely following the construction, saying in a recent interview, “It’s not scary at all now. But this will soon be the creepiest part of Efteling.” Danse Macabre will be the area’s signature attraction, featuring a first-of-its-kind ride system from Intamin, however every aspect of the area will have spooky surprises. “Nowhere in this area are you really safe, it is haunted everywhere. Even in the toilets”, says Verheij. The catering area and toilets will open later this year and Danse Macabre will follow sometime in 2024.

Home Haunts
Jeff Taylor, a homeowner in Rocky River, Ohio won a battle over a giant skeleton display in his front yard. The year-round display is decorated for each holiday – currently sporting shamrocks and a giant jug of green beer for St. Patrick’s Day. Taylor had received an order from the city to take down the giant skeleton. The building commissioner cited neighbor complaints as the reason for the order. However, Taylor said he had never directly received any complaints from neighborhood members. After a meeting with city hall, Law director Michael O’Shea has decided not to cite Taylor for any violations of their building codes. Although the display does not violate any current laws, O’Shea said that Rocky Rivers is now studying how other cities have handled cases like this for possible future updates to city law.
