Frendo is not done. Clown in a Cornfield 2: Frendo Lives, a sequel to last year’s slasher hit, is officially in development at Temple Hill Entertainment, sending the killer clown after final girl Quinn Maybrook once again.
What We Know
The sequel adapts Adam Cesare’s follow-up novel of the same name and is written by Hudson Morgan and Will Lowell, with Temple Hill aiming to begin production later this year. No release date has been set, though a shoot this year points toward a likely 2027 arrival.
Story-wise, the film picks up with Quinn away at college, where a fresh start curdles fast. She becomes the target of online conspiracy theories claiming the Kettle Springs massacre never happened, and when one clown attacks her at a frat party while another goes after her father back home, she is pulled back to the cornfields to end it for good.
Who Is Coming Back
The big question is whether Eli Craig, who directed the 2025 original, returns to the chair. There is no confirmation yet, and Craig is currently busy on his holiday horror film White Elephant. Quinn is set to return as the lead, though it has not been confirmed whether Katie Douglas is reprising the role. The first film, based on Cesare’s novel, scared up roughly $13 million at the worldwide box office.
The DNA the Sequel Inherits
When we spoke with Eli Craig for our interview about the first film, he laid out the recipe that made Clown in a Cornfield connect. He described his goal simply: “I wanna make smart, stupid movies,” a slasher that delivers the kills fans want while slipping in commentary on urban-rural divides and generational tension.
That approach maps neatly onto where the sequel is headed. Craig told us the horror and the comedy were never at odds, and that fear lands hardest when it speaks to real anxieties. A story that drops Quinn into college life and a swirl of online conspiracy theories about her own trauma is exactly the kind of Gen Z pressure point the first film mined, which makes the sequel’s setup a natural extension of that DNA, whether or not Craig is the one to direct it.
For now, Frendo lives, and the cornfields are calling Quinn back.
