Kansas City Haunted Houses

Edge of Hell and The Beast

Edge of Hell and The Beast are open 13 nights in 2026, all in October, in Kansas City’s West Bottoms: October 2 and 3, 9 and 10, 15 to 17, 22 to 24, and 29 to 31. Operator Full Moon Productions cut the calendar from 23 nights last year and cited September heat, which I covered in my Edge of Hell and The Beast article.

  • Edge of Hell: 1300 W. 12th Street, in its 52nd year. Its site describes “pitch-black caves, snake pits, and rat-infested crypts” and a five-story plunge at the end.
  • The Beast: 1401 W. 13th Street. Full Moon Productions’ site describes an open-format haunt with a live alligator, and Thriller dancers and a Headless Horseman perform at the front door. KCTV5 reported that The Beast is No. 3 on America Haunts’ 2026 fan favorites list.
  • Tickets on Friday, October 9: $40 for one haunt plus a $5 service fee, or $66 for both plus a $3 fee, before tax. VIP entry is $55 for one haunt and $88 for both.
  • Entry: tickets are for one-hour entry windows from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. The ticket page asks guests to arrive one hour early at the Central Waiver Station, 1300 W. 13th Street, and parking is free.

Macabre Cinema, Full Moon Productions’ movie-set haunt at 1222 W. 12th Street, has no 2026 dates on its site, and the company’s ticket page sells Edge of Hell and The Beast only.

Tickets for both haunts are on edgeofhell.com and kcbeast.com.

  • Tickets: $44.99 online on October 8, and $69 at the gate. Fast Lane plus Fright Lane, which skips the regular maze lines, is $99.99.
  • Hours: the park opens at 6 p.m. on Fridays. On Saturdays it opens at noon for Tricks and Treats, a family event that runs until 6 p.m., and Halloween Haunt takes over after dark.
  • Details: every maze, scare zone, and show is in my Worlds of Fun Halloween Haunt guide.

Candlelight: A Haunted Evening of Halloween Classics, a 60-minute string quartet concert of Halloween music, is at Unity Temple on the Plaza in Kansas City on October 29 and 30, for ages 8 and up.

St. Louis Haunted Houses

The Darkness

The Darkness, at 1525 South 8th Street next to Soulard Market, is in its 33rd year and is open October 2 to 4, 9 to 11, 15 to 18, and nightly from October 22 through Halloween, then November 1, 7, and 13.

  • New in 2026: Frankenstein scenes with a giant Frankenstein monster, the Bride of Frankenstein, and Igor. The Slaughterhouse, which The Darkness added in 2025, is back with upgrades.
  • Tickets: $34.95 online for general admission, good any night through November 13. A Speed Pass adds $12, Immediate Access is $59.95, and the VIP Secret Bar Experience, a timed ticket with a drink at a bar halfway through the haunt, is $69.95.
  • Hours: doors open at 7 p.m. on most nights and at 6:30 p.m. on October 23, 24, 30, and 31.
  • Good to know: the walk-through takes about 30 minutes, parking is free in the haunt’s lot or on the street, and every guest goes through a metal detector. Teenagers need an adult with them or proof of a ride home.
  • Also on site: a horror museum, and a Horror Retail Store that needs no ticket on nights the haunt is open.

A ticket for both The Darkness and Creepyworld is $59.95, and the two haunts are 18 minutes apart. Operator Halloween Productions’ ticket page lists no 2026 tickets for the Lemp Brewery Haunted House at 3500 Lemp Avenue. The Lemp Mansion, which the Pointer family owns and which runs ghost tours and a Halloween Bash, is for sale and stays open through 2027.

Tickets for The Darkness and Creepyworld are on the haunts’ ticket page.

Creepyworld

Creepyworld is a haunted screampark at 1400 South Old Highway 141 in Fenton, from the operator of The Darkness, with 13 attractions in one place, including seven haunted mazes and the Trick R Treat Haunted Hayride. It is open the same nights as The Darkness through November 13.

  • New in 2026: the Night of the Scarecrow maze.
  • Tickets: $34.95 online for general admission, which covers the mazes. The hayride is $5 more. The Attraction Pass, at $40, adds the hayride, the Jack O’Lantern Spooktacular, and the Monster Selfie Museum, and VIP Immediate Access is $59.95.
  • Parking: $5 a car.
  • Time: about one hour on a quiet night and two hours with lines, according to the haunt’s FAQ.
  • For younger kids: the Jack O’Lantern Spooktacular is a walk-through of carved pumpkins with no scares, and it is $10 by itself.

Fright Fest is the Halloween event at Mid America Adventure in Eureka, the theme park that was Six Flags St. Louis until Enchanted Parks renamed it on August 27, and it runs select nights from September 12 through November 1.

  • What is there: four haunted houses, including the new Gordy’s Gruesome Revenge, seven scare zones, and four shows.
  • Tickets on October 8: $40.99 for a park ticket, which includes the scare zones and shows. The four haunted houses need a Haunted Attractions Pass, which is $27.99, or the $54.99 Express version. A park ticket with the pass is $67.99.
  • Ages: the park does not recommend the haunted houses for guests under 13, and guests 16 and younger need a chaperone who is at least 21.
  • Details: every house, scare zone, and show is in my Fright Fest at Mid America Adventure guide.

Candlelight: A Haunted Evening of Halloween Classics also plays St. Louis, a 60-minute concert at The Link Auditorium for ages 8 and up, with dates on the ticket page.

Springfield and Branson Haunted Houses

Hotel of Terror and Dungeons of Doom

Hotel of Terror, at 334 N. Main Avenue in Springfield, is in its last season in the building where it opened in October 1978. The City of Springfield is buying the property for $2 million to replace the Main Street bridge beside it and takes possession on January 1, 2027, KSMU reported in May. The city’s offer was $200,000 in 2019 and $550,000 in 2023, the year the City Council voted 9-0 to use eminent domain and then repealed the bill after a referendum petition drew 1,568 signatures.

Owner Sterling Mathis was 16 when he helped open the haunt, and “this is all I’ve ever done,” he told KY3 on October 4. Mathis also told the station that construction outside the building has led some people to think the haunt is already closed, and it is open through Halloween.

  • The haunts: Hotel of Terror uses four floors, and guests exit down a 96-foot slide built in 1980. Dungeons of Doom, the newer of the two haunts, is at 701 W. Wall Street.
  • Dates: September 11 to October 31. In October that is Fridays through Sundays until October 11, then every night from October 16 through Halloween.
  • Hours: doors open at 7 p.m. at both haunts. Closing is around 10:30 to 11:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and around midnight to 1 a.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, and Halloween.
  • Tickets: $25 for each haunt, or $45 for both with a free hay or hearse ride between them.

Field of Screams Nixa and Field of Screams Branson

Field of Screams Branson, the operator’s first indoor haunt, is at Ballparks of America, 1000 Pat Nash Drive, and is open 18 nights in October: October 2 to 4, 8 to 11, 15 to 18, 22 to 25, and 29 to 31.

  • Branson hours: 7 to 11 p.m. on Thursdays and Sundays and 7 p.m. to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. The box office opens at 6 p.m.
  • Branson in November: a Halloween and Christmas crossover event on November 6, 7, 13, and 14.
  • Nixa: the original outdoor haunt, at 2142 N Sports Complex Lane, is open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays in October, plus Thursday, October 29, and closes for the season on Sunday, November 1.
  • Tickets: sold through the Get Tickets button on Field of Screams Branson’s site.
  • Details: the lease and the expansion plan are in my Field of Screams Branson article.

Cape Girardeau: Haunted Hall of Horror

The Haunted Hall of Horror, run by Cape Girardeau’s Parks and Recreation Department at the A. C. Brase Arena, is open Fridays and Saturdays from October 9 through October 31, from 7 to 10 p.m., for $12.

  • Inside: mazes with clowns, a 3D freak show, an asylum, and dolls that come alive, according to the city.
  • Kids: ages 5 and under are free, and kids 12 and under need an adult with them.
  • Student night: $8 with a student ID on October 31.
