The Haunted Attraction Association (HAA), the only official trade association for the haunted attraction industry, has certified a record 74 haunted attractions across the United States as 2026 Top Haunts, the largest class in the program’s history and up from 67 in 2025.
Every certified Top Haunt on the list is an active HAA member that has met a rigorous, published set of criteria. To be certified, each attraction must:
- Complete the association’s Certified Haunted Attraction Operator Seminar (C.H.A.O.S.) safety program
- Carry at least $1 million in general liability insurance
- Be registered and inspected by state and local authorities
- Maintain a documented emergency plan
- Provide an employee handbook to all staff
- Operate as a commercial haunted attraction with a pattern of continual reinvestment
Top Haunts are certified at one of three levels based on years in operation and annual attendance:
- 56 Iconic (Platinum) Haunts – 10+ years and 10,000+ annual guests
- 10 Gold Haunts – 5+ years and 5,000+ annual guests
- 8 Silver Haunts – 2+ years and 3,000+ annual guests
The 2026 honorees span 27 states, from large-scale multi-attraction scream parks to community haunts, and include haunted houses, hayrides, trails, and seasonal Halloween events.
