Theme Parks

The Hatbox Ghost has materialized at the Haunted Mansion at Walt Disney World (Orlando, FL). Brave guests can encounter this eerie specter next to the endless hallway, where he takes fiendish delight in unnerving visitors with his heady parlor trick. Disney Imagineers have been working hard to prepare the Mansion for his arrival — enhancing lighting and updating paint throughout the queue and attraction. The Hatbox Ghost has been a fixture in the Disneyland version of the ride since his reappearance in 2015. This is his first visit to the East Coast attraction.

Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort (Anaheim, CA) will return August 23rd – October 31st, 2024. Wicked fun for all ages, this spellbinding season transforms the resort with autumn décor, characters dressed in hauntingly haute Halloween outfits, and uniquely themed attractions. The Dia de Los Muertos celebration, Plaza de la Familia, will return to Disney’s California Adventure from August 23rd – November 2nd.

Scream Break will return to Six Flags Magic Mountain (Valencia, CA) on select nights from March 16th – April 13th, 2024. Event details and ticket information will be on the park’s official website soon. This year’s event included two haunts, scare zones, DJs, themed food & beverages, and more – all with a Spring Break twist. The Haunted Attraction Network visited the event this past March for a little R&RIP – check out our 2023 event coverage video here.

U.S. Haunts & Events

Luke and Madison Rhoades, the creators of Cross Roads Escape Games, have opened Slashers Axe Throwing & Ales in Costa Mesa, California. This horror-themed axe-throwing bar allows guests to try their hand at axe-throwing versions of battle stations, tic-tac-toe, alien invasion, and other fun games while enjoying craft ales. “I see axe throwing the same as I saw escape rooms years ago: a fun and great idea, but lacking in immersive sets and theatrical elements,” says Madison Rhoades. “We plan to take Slashers Axe Throwing & Ales to the same elevated level as Cross Roads Escape Games.” At Slashers, every visit is a story waiting to unfold, a mini adventure to be had. Whether you’re a horror movie buff, an axe-throwing enthusiast, or just looking for a unique night out, Slashers is the place to be! Reservations are now available with 1-hour sessions starting at $40 per person.

Lincoln Mill Haunted House (Philadelphia, PA) will present its first holiday haunt event, “A Twisted Christmas,” on Saturday, December 16th. “Lincoln Mill Haunted House is an immersive story-telling attraction. We wanted to continue telling the Lincoln Mill story throughout the holiday season,” said Lincoln Mill Haunted House Co-Founder Jared Bilsak. “We always thought it would be interesting to combine our two favorite Holidays, Christmas and Halloween! We also have many elaborate sets, scenes, and props that are sitting and collecting dust throughout the off-season. It only made sense that we utilize our haunted house space, sprinkle it with a Christmas essence, and offer something new and exciting to the community!” The haunt will feature over 35 scareactors and holiday-themed sets and soundtrack. Tickets are on sale now, starting at $32 for general admission and $75 for VIP access.

Niles Scream Park (Niles, Michigan) raised more than $153,000 for local groups this season. The money raised in this 50th consecutive year of the project benefitted more than 77 area children’s organizations, civic groups, and other charities. In addition to cash donations, Niles Scream Park supported many local causes, auctions, and benefits with ticket donations totaling more than $3,500. They also awarded $8,500 in college scholarships in 2023. Since 1996, the Scream Park has donated over $2,500,000 to various local groups.

Christmas met Halloween at Moon Spot Farms (Kunkletown, PA) during their first Witchy Candy Cane Hunt. Clues sent participants on a hike and scavenger hunt to search for candy canes and witchy ornaments at seven different stops. “It kind of gives a little bit of a farm tour but also fun with family and just like education on different spiritual things or relaxation, meditation, and most importantly self-care,” said Abigail Frantz, owner of Witchy Yogi Co. Franz has held doggy scavenger hunts in the past, but this was her first Christmas/Halloween crossover event.

Conventions & Mixers

TransWorld’s East Coast Haunters Convention announced that their Saturday Night Party will be held at Otherworld Philadelphia (Philadelphia, PA). Tickets will go on sale soon on the convention’s official website. Transportation will be included. Otherworld Philadelphia features large scale interactive art, mixed reality playgrounds, and secret passageways within a surreal landscape of science fiction and fantasy.

Retail

Spirit Halloween announced the return of its 3.2ft Demonica animatronic. Rising from the grave after last being sold from the retailer in 2011, Demonica appears to break out of the ground while twisting and turning her head. From her creepy light up red eyes to her frightening growls and laughter, Demonica will have your guests running in terror! The animatronic is on sale now for $149.99

Home Haunters

Adolescent Halloween-fan Tanner Jase Hand (Alexander City, AL) was recognized by local news for his creative Five Nights at Freddy’s costume. He and his family spent nearly two months creating a life-like Springtrap costume (his favorite character from the popular video game franchise).
