On October 14th, Universal Studios & Blumhouse Productions celebrated their partnership with the first-ever in-person Blumfest. The event featured screenings, film panels, and a Halloween Horror Nights Q&A with Universal Orlando Scenic Designer Dylan Kollath, Show Director Charles Gray, and Creative Director Michael Aiello. The discussion included topics such as the unique collaboration between the parks, Universal Pictures, and Blumhouse; their design process – which can take 15-16 months; and how they choose which properties to adapt to attractions.

Conventions & Mixers

IAAPA Expo is in Orlando, Florida, this week from November 14th – 18th. Come with industry professionals worldwide to learn and experience what’s new, innovative, and next in the global attraction industry. The event features an expansive trade show floor, industry mixers, educational programming, and behind-the-scenes tours of area attractions. Notable Halloween-related programming includes: The Right “BOO” for Your Brand (Tuesday @ 4:00 p.m.) with Creative Director Scott Swenson and Let’s Get Spooky! The Scare Factor will host its annual Monster Bash at Nightmare on Edgewood (Indianapolis, IN) this Saturday, November 19th. Monster Bash is an after-season party for haunters featuring an incredible party atmosphere, a LIVE haunt tour with an award-winning attraction, free drinks, music, a costume contest with cash prizes and awards, door prizes, cash-and-carry vendors, Haunters Against Hate Drag Show, and The Scare Factor’s very own Awards Ceremony. Anyone affiliated with the haunt industry – whether you work for a haunt or related vendor or organization – is invited to purchase a ticket to attend. Tickets are still available online for $25 and include 2 drink tickets, live haunt tour of Nightmare on Edgewood, interactive attractions, and more.

Iconic stars from Hollywood’s latest thrillers and timeless favorites anchor a weekend of holiday horror as Season’s Screamings announces its finalized program of spooky fa-la-la fun at the Pasadena Convention Center (Pasadena, CA), December 2-4. Keith David, star of this year’s NOPE, and Henry Thomas (The Haunting of Hill HouseOuija) – who we all first loved as Elliott in E.T. – are both part of a great line-up of stars who will greet fans,” said David Markland, Season’s Screamings Executive Director and Co-Founder. “We will also welcome legends like Imagineer Bob Gur and Sara Karloff – daughter of Boris Karloff.” Steven Weber, known by horror fans for his work in The Shining mini-series and Tales from the Crypt, and Annabeth Gish – who starred in Midnight Mass – are also on the long list of meet and greet guests. Saturday’s panels include: “The Shining Legacy” – Celebrate the 45th anniversary of Stephen King’s The Shining and the 25th anniversary of the Mick Garris directed TV mini-series adaptation with Mike Flanagan (director of Doctor Sleep, the sequel to The Shining), Steven Weber (Jack Torrance in The Shining mini-series), Henry Thomas (Torrance in Doctor Sleep), Mick Garris and other special guests. Moderated by Fangoria’s KINGCAST; “How the Grinch Stole Our Hearts” – A heartfelt discussion about How the Grinch Stole Christmas! with Sara Karloff, whose father, Boris Karloff, narrated the beloved animated classic, members of animation legend Chuck Jones’ family, and Emmy Award-winning Animator and Director Phil Roman, who was part of the team that brought the Grinch to life. Sunday’s panels include: “A Scary Little Christmas” Author Matt Dupee moderates a panel about holiday horror films with the stars of genre favorites, Robert Brian Wilson (Silent Night, Deadly Night) Eric Freeman (Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2) and Scott MacDonald (Jack Frost); and “Flanaverse Reunion” – Cast members of The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, Doctor Sleep and more join director Mike Flanagan for a talk about the making of his The Haunting anthology series on Netflix and other projects. Kate Siegel, Henry Thomas, Alex Essoe, and Annabeth Gish are scheduled to appear. The full, up-to-date schedule with times, vendors, guests, and more will be available soon via the Midsummer Scream app. Tickets are on sale now starting at $30 – $37.50 for One-Day General Admission, $60 for Weekend General Admission, and $95 for Weekend Naughty List VIP Tickets.

U.S. Haunts & Events

Have you been naughty or nice? Feeling naughty? A dark holiday themed “spookeasy”, Krampus Tavern, is coming to The Globe Theatre in Downtown Los Angeles this December 10th & 11th. Wander through 3 floors of this twisted Christmas experience where Krampus and his demented helpers haunt the halls. From themed photo-op areas, creepy cocktails, and a dark holiday marketplace to burlesque performances and roaming haunts –  The Krampus Tavern (21+) is an experience you don’t want to miss. Feeling nice? Arrive between 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. for an all-ages experience, Krampus’ Workshop. The family-friendly event features access to select photo ops, drink options, and the Krampus’ Workshop dark holiday marketplace. Children under the age of 5 are free with paid adult. Factory of the Dead (Saginaw, MI) is seeking scareactors for their 7th annual Xmas Horror Story event. Xmas Horror Story will take place Saturday, December 17th. Interested individuals can submit an application on the event’s official website

Factory of Fear (Moline, IL) is accepting applications for guest actors for Frightmare Before Christmas. The holiday haunt will take place December 9th – 10th. To apply, fill out the event’s official website form and type “Guest Actor” in the referral line.
