Irving, TX. Michaels unveiled its 2026 Halloween décor lineup this week, framed as a “Halloween Rewind” and built around six themed collections that lean hard into nostalgia. The collections draw from vintage carnival mysticism, late-’90s roller-rink culture, neighborhood Halloween parties, gothic libraries, witchy coming-of-age stories, and Victorian gothic romance. The retailer calls it its most expansive assortment to date.

This announcement caught my attention because of what Michaels’ merchandising chief said about why the company is leaning into nostalgia. Retail is the first wave of Halloween and most Americans will buy something for Halloween or decorate. Basically, retail sets the mood for Halloween, and the mood Michaels is saying resonates this year is nostalgia.

“Halloween has always been about revisiting the traditions, stories and rituals that make the season feel magical year after year,” said Stacey Shively, chief merchandising officer at Michaels. “As consumers continue embracing analog living, we’re seeing renewed interest in the nostalgic aesthetics of past generations. As the destination for creating and celebrating, we designed this year’s assortment as a Halloween rewind, bringing together throwback décor, hands-on creativity and party essentials to help customers reimagine those classics for today’s home.”

Nostalgia as a merchandising bet can be read two ways. It might be a real generational signal that the Halloween audience is buying into analog, throwback, and pre-internet aesthetics. It might also be a softer-economy comfort move, since consumers under economic pressure often lean toward what they remember as a better, simpler season. Either reading is a worth-watching data point for haunt operators thinking about themed-zone direction, scareactor styling, and the marketing language that lands with the retail-primed Halloween shopper.

The six collections

Bound by Magic (available June 26): Inspired by the golden age of stage magic and fortune telling, Bound by Magic channels the mystery and spectacle of vintage carnival sideshows, magician’s parlors, and mystical curiosities. Deep navy and antique gold meet zodiac symbols, celestial motifs, and tarot-inspired icons.

Mischief & Magic (available June 26): Drawing from the colorful nostalgia of roller-rink culture, arcade hangouts, and late-1990s childhood Halloween celebrations, Mischief & Magic reimagines the season through disco ghosts, pastel pumpkins, and candy-colored décor. Bright pinks, aquas, and oranges define the palette.

Vintage Spirits (available July 17): Rooted in neighborhood Halloween parties and old-fashioned fairground fun, Vintage Spirits features retro black cats, nostalgic jack-o’-lanterns, vintage carnival games, checkered patterns, and hand-painted folk-art details. The Michaels release calls out “small-town Halloween festivals and the pre-internet magic of Halloweens past” as the lane.

Hallowed Halls (available July 17): Inspired by gothic libraries, candlelit spook-easies, and storied old manors, Hallowed Halls blends rich emerald hues, antique brass finishes, and dramatic black accents. Absinthe-inspired artwork, haunted Victorian portraits, and literary references nod to the turn-of-the-century fascination with spiritualism, séances, and late-night ghost stories.

Conjuring Nightfall (available July 17): Inspired by the witchy stories and supernatural heroines of the late ’90s and early 2000s, Conjuring Nightfall blends deep crimson, aged black, and mystical accents. Spellbooks, potion bottles, broomsticks, ravens, and black cats define the line.

Enchanted Romance (available July 17): Inspired by windswept estates, gothic romance novels, and the doomed love stories of the Victorian era, Enchanted Romance blends crimson and black, heart-and-dagger motifs, dark florals, and explicit references to Romeo & Juliet. The Michaels release frames the lane as “star-crossed lovers and forbidden devotion that endures beyond the grave.”

Beyond décor

Michaels is also expanding the season beyond pure décor. The retailer is highlighting Halloween-themed offerings in The Knit & Sew Shop for costume making and seasonal fabrics, and The Party Shop for Halloween-themed balloons and party essentials. New in-store personalization experiences include a DIY Banner Bar and a Candy Bar.

Michaels goes big on “Hobbyween” crafting

In late August, Michaels followed those decor collections with a second, bigger Halloween push it calls “Hobbyween,” built around what the retailer says is its largest Halloween crafting assortment to date. It spans hundreds of DIY projects, from spooky crochet, embroidery, and cross-stitch to Paint by Number, mystery craft kits, and group party kits made for Halloween craft nights and Boo Basket gatherings.

Michaels is framing hands-on Halloween as a real trend, not just a product line. The company says 70 percent of its shoppers DIY their own Halloween decor, and it points to sharp year-over-year jumps in searches on Michaels.com: Halloween crochet kits up 583 percent, “Summerween” up 530 percent, and Halloween embroidery and cross-stitch each up nearly 400 percent. “Summerween is about celebrating Halloween early, but Hobbyween is about celebrating it more creatively,” said Stacey Shively, chief merchandising officer at Michaels.

The crafting assortment is in stores and online now. For the DIY crowd, it pairs with our looks at collecting vintage Beistle Halloween decorations and whether Hobby Lobby sells Halloween decorations.

Lemax Spooky Town: eight Michaels exclusives

Separate from the six décor collections, Michaels is the exclusive home of eight Lemax Spooky Town village pieces for 2026, from a 9.99 Broom Charging Station table accent to 19.99 animated Sights & Sounds buildings. One of them, DJ Decay’s Roller Rink Rave, lands on the same late-’90s roller-rink idea as the Mischief & Magic collection above. See all eight with prices and SKUs.
