Oreo Ghosts have started turning up in Halloween aisles, and the thing worth knowing before you go looking is that they are not a ghost-shaped Oreo. They are molded dark chocolate ghosts filled with Oreo creme and cookie pieces, sold in a bag of individually wrapped singles.
The bag reads OREO GHOSTS across the front over bats and spiderwebs, with a corner flash marking it new and an inset showing the wrapped singles and an Oreo cookie under the line “made with real Oreo.” Each wrapper inside reads OREO GHOST, singular, one ghost per pack.
What Is Actually Inside
The ghost itself is a solid molded shape with embossed eyes and a grin. Break one open and the layers show: a dark chocolate shell, white creme, and dark cookie pieces running through it.
Walmart’s listing describes them as “Spooky ghost-shaped candies filled with real OREO® cookie pieces and crème” and says the “Smooth dark chocolate shell delivers a rich, indulgent bite.” The bag is 7 ounces, and the listing credits Frankford Candy as the maker. Frankford holds the license for a range of Oreo confections beyond the cookie aisle.
That distinction matters if you are shopping online, because a search on a site like Amazon for Oreo and ghost also returns chocolate-covered Oreo cookies sold in Halloween bags by other sellers. Those are cookies dipped in chocolate. These are chocolate with cookie inside.
Where to Find Them
The first sighting we can point to came from snack account Snackolator, who found them at Walgreens on August 1 and photographed the bag, the wrapped singles, and the cross-section shown above.
BOO! The new OREO filled ghosts are here and there is nothing scary about these – they are DELICIOUS and that cookie layer at the top is sooo tasty! 👻🍫

Walmart also lists the bag online, at $6.04 as of this writing. Neither Oreo nor Frankford has posted an announcement, so treat store-by-store availability as a hunt rather than a rollout, the same way the Home Depot Halloween buckets have gone this summer.
Built for the Candy Bowl
Individually wrapped singles in a share bag is trick-or-treat packaging, and this year that bowl is getting more scrutiny than usual.
Hershey’s State of the Season report found that 46% of parents say the perfect Halloween block hands out full-size candy bars, with Gen Z preferring full-size at four times the rate of Boomers, and 20% of Halloween participants now trunk-or-treating. Mars found that 71% of US adults want sensory or textural experiences from their treats. A chocolate shell with cookie crunch inside is aimed squarely at both.
