Reign of Terror Haunted House in Thousand Oaks opens its 2026 season on September 25, adding two new walk-through sections, Backwoods and The Blue Bayou Hotel, plus a reimagined Funhouse. The Southern California haunt runs 18 nights through early November, with tickets on sale now from $39.99.
Backwoods sends visitors through overgrown wilderness and decrepit camp cabins where the locals are not friendly and there are bear traps to watch for. The Blue Bayou Hotel is the season’s other new build, a once-grand hotel where checking in is easier than checking out, its corridors lined with apparitions and secrets. The Funhouse has been rebuilt for 2026 with new scares, and the post-haunt photo op has been expanded with large-scale themed sets where guests can take pictures after the walkthrough.
The attraction covers 35,000 square feet and 145 rooms across 12 connected themes, and Reign of Terror is now in its 27th year, having grown from a local Halloween attraction into one of the larger haunts in the region. It bills itself as the largest indoor walk-through haunted house in Southern California, and the operator pitches it as an unusually long walkthrough, with live actors and detailed sets throughout. With 145 rooms strung together into one continuous route, a trip through takes longer than a typical single-maze haunt. The two new sections join returning ones like The Bayou, Vampire’s Lair, The Asylum, and a Victorian haunted house.
Tickets are on sale now. General admission runs $39.99 on the opening weekend of September 25 and 26, $44.99 on regular nights, and $49.99 on premium nights (October 16, 17, 23, 24, 30, and 31). An Immediate Access skip-the-line ticket runs $64.99 to $74.99 depending on the date, and the haunt calls the quantity extremely limited. Prices vary by night, and all sales are final with no refunds. The full run is limited to 18 nights spread across late September, October, and early November, so open dates are worth checking before a trip. Tickets are sold online or at the door, and entry runs on 30-minute arrival windows, so a 7 p.m. ticket means arriving between 7 and 7:30.
Reign of Terror is at 285 N. Moorpark Road in Thousand Oaks, inside Janss Marketplace, with free on-site parking. Thousand Oaks sits in the Conejo Valley, about 40 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles near the Ventura County line, which keeps the haunt within an easy drive for much of the greater Los Angeles area. On event nights, doors open at 7 p.m. The haunt recommends it for ages 13 and up because of the intensity of the scares, and no photography or video is allowed inside. The operator also says it supports local charities that help animals in need.
