SHAQTOBERFEST, the new Halloween Festival, opened this weekend next to the Queen Mary in Long Beach, California. SHAQTOBERFEST includes six thrilling Halloween-themed areas for guests to explore, each featuring Halloween trails, games, live entertainment, food and beverage vendors, and more. It is the start of October and SoCal is jam-packed with Halloween experiences. Get theme park thrills and chills with Universal Studio’s Hollywood’s Halloween Horror Nights, Knott’s Scary Farm, Castle Dark, Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort, Sea World San Diego’s Howl-O-Scream, Brick-or-Treat presents Monster Party at Legoland California Resort, and Six Flags Magic Mountain’s Fright Fest. Thirteenth Floor Entertainment Group presents the all-new SHAQTOBERFEST, Los Angeles Haunted Hayride, and Delusion. Reign of Terror returns to terrorize Thousand Oaks. All those haunts making you hungry for more? Pirates Dinner Adventure presents “Vampirates” for guests to enjoy a frightful feast & dinner show. And these are just a sample of the spooky offerings!
REMINDER: For the first time, Disney fans will learn about the creation of the sell-out event, Oogie Boogie Bash, at “AN OOGIE BOOGIE AFTERNOON.” The creative team at Disney Live Entertainment and Walt Disney Imagineering will reveal the design and creation process on stage at The Frida Cinema (7 miles from Disneyland) on Sunday, October 9th at 3pm. Moderated and produced by “Dizney Coast to Coast” podcast host Jeff DePaoli, the panel precedes a screening of Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” Scheduled to appear on the panel are Oogie Boogie Bash creator and show director Jordan Peterson, media and lighting director KC Wilkerson, and producer Jennifer Magill. With these talents covering a wide range of what makes Oogie Boogie Bash so special, it’s sure to be an entertaining and insightful conversation. Tickets begin at $30 and are available here.
City Museum (St. Louis, MO) is taking frights and fun to a new level this October with Misfit Halloween. The museum is hosting 5 spooky, quirky, and fun experiences Friday – Sundays, October 7th – 30th. Participate in a séance through the haunted halls of the museum with Medium Dr. Fochsister. Witness unbelievable feats as LadyBeast dances atop champagne bottles, thrills the audience with death-defying escape artistry, and performs other mind-blowing feats of illusion and magic. Join the Donniker Brothers, the Giants of the entertainment world and masters of the midway, as they bring their one-of-a-kind Halloween show to City Museum. See Zambora miraculously transform into the Missouri Monster right before your very eyes. Lastly, be astonished by Mademoiselle Allura: The Headless Woman. Other weekly unique events include a craft market, “Creatures of Myth and Legend”, “Trick or Treat at the Slides”, “City Nights: Rocky Horror Picture Show”, and “Dinner Detectives”. Most events are free with general admission to the museum. Museum admission starts at $20 per person.
The Little Tokyo Ghost Club presents the 6th annual Haunted Little Tokyo Block Party from 6:00 p.m. to Midnight on Saturday, October 29th, 2022. The 21+ event invites ghosts and ghouls to explore Downtown Los Angeles’ most historic neighborhood after dark and experience Little Tokyo like never before. Discover the secret event location to unveil a spooktacular scene featuring costume contests, a DJ playing wicked tunes, and a bevy of fangtastic food and beverages to purchase from Little Tokyo’s most spellbinding businesses. Entrance is free with RSVP.
Tickets go on sale this Thursday (October 6th) for Netflix’s Stanger Things: The Experience in Montebello, California. Venture inside Hawkins Lab for a 1-hour immersive experience featuring a brand-new Stranger Things storyline, then explore an 80’s-themed Mix-Tape medley with food & drinks, special merchandise, photo ops, and much more. The event opens in November 2022 and runs from Wednesdays – Sundays. Tickets will start at $49 for Standard Admission. The Academy Museum (Los Angeles, CA) celebrates the spooky season Hollywood-style with a slate of films that explore the history, complexities, and imagination of the horror genre as well as family-friendly Halloween favorites. Watch El Vampiro (1957) and Cronos (1993) as part of the Mexico Maleficarum: Resurrecting 20th Century Mexican Horror Cinema film series. The Monstrous: The Dark Side of New Korean Cinema film series includes The Host (2006) and Thirst (2009). Weekend Family Matinees will showcase the magical films of LAIKA – including fan-favorites Coraline (2009) and Paranorman (2012). As we are now in the midst of the haunt season, the Haunted Attraction Association would like to remind all members of the haunt community to keep safety as a #1 priority at their haunt. Have safety plans and protocols in place – and practice them with your team. HAA members also have access to the JK Consulting Crisis Management hotline. If a crisis happens, speak to JK Consulting before the media. The agency is available 24/7 via its duty officer program to ensure prompt handling of emergencies, providing all the staff and expertise needed to manage the media when a crisis strikes.
