Camelback Resort is giving its summer waterpark a very different second season. The Pocono Mountains destination is launching a new Halloween haunt, The Curse of Camelback, that transforms Camelbeach Mountain Waterpark and the mountain around it into the site of a fictional chemical outbreak. It runs Thursday, September 17 through Sunday, November 8, 2026.
A rescue mission that goes wrong
The premise plays off the setting. In the story, crews using explosive chemicals to excavate the mountainside and aquatics teams treating the pools for the Labor Day crowds accidentally mix two substances into something toxic. A glowing green gas now pours out of Kahuna Lagoon, mutating anyone caught in the mist, and the military has moved in to contain it. The few surviving staff have gathered at the base of the Sunbowl Lift to organize rescue parties, and guests are cast as the volunteers heading uphill into the containment zone.
The experience is built as a journey rather than a single maze. Guests board the mountain lift and ride up to Camelbeach, then move through an abandoned emergency-response camp, fog-filled waterpark attractions, chemical spills, barricades, eerie tunnels, and maze-like paths, coming face to face with mutated characters and scares along the way.
“More than a haunted attraction, this experience takes guests on a journey from the base of the mountain into a completely altered world,” said Jason Bays, vice president and general manager of Camelback Resort.
When to go
The Curse of Camelback runs on select nights from September 17 through November 8. Hours are 6 to 10 p.m. on Thursdays and Sundays and 6 p.m. to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
