About Orlando Special Effects
Orlando Special Effects is a full-service special effects company with its offices and shop in Orlando, Florida. Its work covers indoor and outdoor fireworks and pyrotechnics, CO2 and LN2 cryogenic fog effects, flame and fire effects, confetti and streamers, and mechanical effects, for corporate functions, motion pictures, family entertainment centers, theme parks, haunted attractions, circuses, sporting events, stunt shows, weddings and military training.
Owner and CEO Andrew Nicholls opened the company in May 1989 to serve corporate events and motion picture effects in Florida. It later joined IAAPA and began working with theme parks, and the military brought in the team to build custom equipment for US Army training. Nicholls sits on the National Fire Protection Association’s Technical Committee on Special Effects, which writes the fire codes for indoor and proximate pyrotechnics and flame effects before an audience, and on its Technical Committee on Pyrotechnics.
Clients include Ripley’s Haunted Experience in Myrtle Beach, Headless Horseman Haunted Attractions in Ulster Park, New York, Skull Kingdom in Orlando, Walt Disney World, Universal Studios and SeaWorld. The company also teaches special effects classes through its Special FX School.
