Woods of Terror, the haunted attraction in Greensboro, North Carolina, is mourning a member of its family. Laurie, whom the attraction called “a very special member of our Woods of Terror family,” died on September 11, the haunt’s opening night, after a medical emergency at the event. Rather than hold a formal service, her family and the haunt are marking her memory with a permanent memorial on the Woods of Terror Midway.
In a message to staff, fans, and the community, owners Eddie and Peggy McLaurin said their on-site medical team responded immediately and began life-saving measures, joined by firefighters from Engine 2 and Guilford County EMS, but that the efforts were not successful. The owners asked that people keep Laurie’s family, friends, and the Woods of Terror staff in their thoughts.

To Our Woods of Terror Family, Staff, and Fans,
Last night, one of our team members experienced a serious medical emergency while at Woods of Terror.
Our on-site medical team responded immediately and began life-saving measures. They were joined by firefighters from Engine 2 and Guilford County EMS, and every possible life-saving effort was made to no avail.
Our Woods of Terror family is deeply saddened by this heartbreaking situation. Out of respect for the individual and their loved ones, we ask that everyone please keep the family, friends, and our Woods of Terror staff in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.
We are more than a staff here, we are a family, and right now our family is hurting.
Please continue to surround everyone affected with love, compassion, and prayers.

A Permanent Memorial on the Midway
Because Laurie’s family decided not to hold a formal service, Woods of Terror is building a permanent memorial to her this season on its Midway, on the backside of the Wolf photo op, directly across from Cyclones and Midway Munchies. A memorial banner is set up for anyone who would like to sign it and leave a message, alongside an angel placed in her memory, and guests are welcome to leave notes, flowers, small personal items, or other tributes. The memorial banner gives her dates as August 9, 1960 to September 11, 2026.
In its message announcing the memorial, the haunt wrote:
In Loving Memory of Laurie
It is with heavy hearts that we share that a very special member of our Woods of Terror family, Laurie, has passed away.
Laurie’s family has decided not to hold a formal service, so this season, Woods of Terror will be creating a permanent memorial in her honor here on our Midway, a place where her friends, coworkers, guests, and everyone whose life she touched can come together to remember and celebrate her.
The memorial will be located on the backside of the Wolf photo op, directly across from Cyclones and Midway Munchies.
We will have a special memorial banner available for anyone who would like to sign and leave a message for Laurie, along with an angel placed in her memory. Guests are also welcome to leave notes, flowers, small personal items, or other meaningful tributes at the memorial.
Laurie was much more than a member of our team. She was part of our Woods of Terror family, and her presence and memory will forever be a part of this place. We hope this memorial gives everyone who knew and loved her a special place to visit, share a memory, and honor the impact she had on so many people.
