The Wolf Man has a new wine this Halloween season, and the bottle glows in the dark. The Wolf Man is the fourth Universal Monster to get his own bottle in a collab with 19 Crimes. It is a full-bodied Australian red the label calls Howlin’ Hour Red Blend, with notes of blackberry, chocolate, and spice.
Glow-in-the-Dark Labels and an AR Trick
For this collection, the label does the heavy lifting. Every Universal Monsters bottle carries a glow-in-the-dark label, and this year’s is a snarling, neon-lit werewolf from creature designer and art director Crash McCreery. Point the 19 Crimes app at one and an augmented-reality experience brings the monster to life on your phone. The labels have been the collection’s calling card since it launched, and the brand leans all the way into it, describing these as “highly collectible wines.” Part of the fun is that each monster gets its own wine: Frankenstein is a Cabernet Sauvignon, the Bride of Frankenstein a red blend, the Mummy a Hard Chard, and the Wolf Man the new Howlin’ Hour red blend. It is the same licensed-horror lane as Ghost Face Vodka’s neon Blood Orange bottle, just aimed at the wine aisle.
The Universal Monsters Lineup So Far
The Wolf Man is one of Universal Pictures’ original golden-age monsters, and 19 Crimes has spent four autumns working its way through that lineup. The brand treats each year’s reveal as a guessing game. “Every Halloween, our fans ask which monster is coming next, and after three successful years, we’re excited to answer that question with the arrival of The Wolf Man,” said Jon Solimando, the brand’s global director.
For anyone keeping count, Universal’s roster still has plenty of famous faces waiting for a bottle. Dracula, the Creature from the Black Lagoon, the Phantom of the Opera, the Invisible Man, and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde are all still on the table for year five. It is the same Universal Monsters wave that has been turning up all over Halloween retail this season, from Sonic’s Wacky Pack toys to a LEGO set.
Where to Find It
The 19 Crimes x Universal Monsters wines are at participating retailers across North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia while supplies last. It is a limited release that turns up in select markets rather than on every shelf, so stock and pricing vary by store and country. 19 Crimes has not announced a suggested price or an on-sale date for The Wolf Man, so it is worth checking your usual wine shop or the brand’s store locator if the werewolf is the one you are after.
