Host Anna Camp stands in front of Bihl Manor for HGTV's A Very Haunted Renovation

HGTV is spending the Halloween season inside a real haunted house. A Very Haunted Renovation, a new six-episode competition series, premieres Tuesday, September 15 at 8|7c on HGTV, with episodes streaming the next day on HBO Max starting September 16. The show drops six designers into Bihl Manor, a crumbling mansion in Fremont, Ohio, that it bills as one of the most haunted homes in America, and has them live inside for 31 days while competing for a $50,000 prize.

“Bihl Manor is one of the most haunted homes in America,” said Anna Camp, the actress (Scream 7) who hosts the series. “Unoccupied, falling apart and on the verge of demolition, no one is brave enough to step foot inside—until now.”

The Competition

The six designers are SK Stokes Kennedy, Patrick Peel, John Ryan, Bershan Shaw, Logan Wright, and Diana Vogel. They move into the mansion for 31 days and take on a top-to-bottom renovation, facing elimination challenges in each episode as they bring the home’s spaces back from the dead. The premiere sends them into a bedroom design battle: two teams of three, four days each, with makeovers inspired by the spirits of Lizzie and Alvie Bihl, said to haunt the sleeping quarters.

The Judges

Design expert Michel Smith Boyd mentors and evaluates the teams, joined by a rotating panel of guest judges stacked with horror names. They include Cassandra Peterson (Elvira, Mistress of the Dark), horror director Eli Roth, paranormal investigator Jack Osbourne, actor Billy Porter, production designer Hannah Beachler, and actress Lulu Wilson.

A Familiar Name for Haunt Fans

One competitor will look familiar to HAN readers. Diana Vogel runs The Vogel Victorian, the Victorian mourning experience HAN covered at Creep It Real OC, where she staged a guided walkthrough on death and mourning customs inside a historic house. Now she is competing to redesign a genuinely haunted one.

How to Watch

A Very Haunted Renovation premieres Tuesday, September 15 at 8|7c on HGTV, and new episodes stream the next day on HBO Max beginning September 16. Ahead of the premiere, HGTV is also rolling out a YouTube companion series, Would You Buy This Haunted House?, starting September 11, that follows psychic Steffi Hill through homes on the market.
