The free LEGO Halloween build at Barnes & Noble ran October 9 to 11 at more than 470 stores, and the next free build, the LEGO Holiday Build, is listed at more than 500 stores for November 13 to 15. By October 13, 89 of those stores had marked it full, and 10 stores still list a Halloween build between October 16 and 24.
The LEGO Holiday Build: November 13 to 15 at More Than 500 Stores
The LEGO Holiday Build Event is an in-store LEGO mini build. Barnes & Noble’s listing calls it “a LEGO Holiday themed mini build event” that is “perfect for ages 10+” and says “LEGO enthusiasts of all ages are welcome.” The standard listing gives no price and does not name the model.
“Each registered participant will receive one (1) FREE LEGO kit to build and take home,” the Ellicott City, Maryland, store’s listing says, and the stores in Plantation, Florida, and Stockton, California, also call the build free. The Chapel Hill, North Carolina, store describes “a LEGO Holiday themed mini build event featuring Santa’s Workshop.”
Union Square in New York says its event “is ideal for children ages 4-10,” and Aurora City Place in Colorado says “the kits are reserved for anyone under 18.”
Barnes & Noble’s store listings on October 13 showed the Holiday Build at 518 stores in 48 states and Washington, D.C. Saturday, November 14, has the most sessions with 309 listings, Friday, November 13, has 189, and Sunday, November 15, has 50. Two stores, Christiana Mall in Newark, Delaware, and Alamo Ranch in San Antonio, list Sunday, November 22. California has the most stores at 55, followed by Texas with 48, Florida with 31, New York with 30, and Pennsylvania with 28.
Start times run from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and the two most common are 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. In New York, the Union Square store has its build on Saturday, November 14, at 3 p.m. In Los Angeles, The Grove at Farmers Market has one that Saturday at 4 p.m., and in Chicago, the State Street store has one on Sunday, November 15, at 1 p.m.
How to Reserve a Spot
Barnes & Noble has no national sign-up for the builds, and each store handles reservations itself. On October 13, 89 of the 518 stores, about one in six, had marked the Holiday Build full, a month before the event. Twenty-two stores put an online sign-up link in the listing, and 27 say sign-ups have not opened yet or give a start date, such as “Sign-ups will begin at 12p.m. on October 14.”
“Contact our store for more information on how to reserve a spot for this event,” most listings say. To find a session, search your city on Barnes & Noble’s store-events pages, open your store’s LEGO Holiday Build Event listing for its date and start time, and reserve the way that store asks, by phone, in person, or through its link. “Kits are limited while supplies last,” the listing says.
Halloween Builds Still on the Calendar, October 16 to 24
The LEGO Halloween Build Event was a costume-optional, in-store mini build of about an hour, and at most stores it ran from Friday, October 9, through Sunday, October 11. Barnes & Noble’s listing described it only as “a LEGO Halloween themed mini build” and did not name the model. The toy site Brick Fanatics reported it was a witch on a broomstick. The Halloween build was listed at more than 470 stores in 48 states, most of them on Saturday, October 10.
On October 13, eight stores still listed a Halloween build that was not marked full:
- Mobile, Alabama: Friday, October 16, 7 p.m.
- Glastonbury, Connecticut (Somerset Square): Friday, October 16, 6 p.m.
- Buford, Georgia (Mall of Georgia): Friday, October 16, 7 p.m.
- Pensacola, Florida: Saturday, October 17, 11 a.m.
- Tallahassee, Florida (Centre of Tallahassee): Saturday, October 17, 4 p.m.
- Saratoga Springs, New York: Saturday, October 17, 3 p.m.
- Miami, Florida (Midtown Miami): Friday, October 23, 7 p.m.
- Boca Raton, Florida: Saturday, October 24, 2 p.m.
Stores in Overland Park, Kansas, and Albany, New York, also list Halloween builds in that window, and both have marked them full.
