Santa Clara, CA — 2027 is the final season at California’s Great America: the park opens in March and closes for good after Labor Day, Sept. 6, 2027, because its land lease expires in June 2028 and won’t be renewed.

Rides, Passes and Group Bookings in 2027

Six Flags announced the Farewell Season, its name for the park’s final year, on Nov. 6. The park’s last 2026 operating date was Nov. 1, it reopens in March 2027, and the 2027 calendar, with its operating days and hours, “will be announced at a later date.” Six Flags’ FAQ for the final season says:

  • Rides and attractions operate all season, with availability subject to maintenance, weather and other operational considerations.
  • South Bay Shores Waterpark, included with park admission, is expected to open on its normal seasonal schedule.
  • Special experiences for the Farewell Season are planned, with details to come “as plans are finalized.”
  • 2027 Gold and Prestige Passes are on sale, with unlimited visits all season plus access to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo.
  • Current passes and their benefits are honored under their terms, and dining plans, drink plans and other add-ons stay on sale.
  • Company picnics, school outings, youth groups and catered group events can be booked through Labor Day.

“For more than five decades, this Santa Clara theme park has brought people together, created family traditions and served as the backdrop for unforgettable memories,” said Dave Vosejpka, park manager of California’s Great America. “The Farewell Season is an opportunity for generations of Bay Area guests to return, spend time with family and friends, and revisit the attractions and traditions that have made the park in Santa Clara, California such a meaningful part of the community.”

The Final Day Comes Before Halloween

With Labor Day as the last day of operation in 2027, there is no fall season at the park next year. California’s Great America opened in 1976 as part of the nation’s Bicentennial celebration, and its 50th season this year added fall dates under the name More Days & More Fun.

The park replaced its Halloween Haunt with Tricks and Treats, a family Halloween event, in 2022, as I reported at the time. The Bay Area’s Halloween events, from Pirates of Emerson in Pleasanton to Gilroy Gardens’ Great Big BOO, are on my Bay Area haunted houses guide.

Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Illinois, is a different park, and its Halloween event is on my Fright Fest at Great America guide.

The 2027 Farewell Season at California’s Great America in Santa Clara runs from March through Labor Day, Sept. 6, 2027. For passes, tickets and the calendar when it posts, visit sixflags.com/cagreatamerica.
