Mike Flanagan is bringing Carrie to television for the first time. Carrie premieres with all eight episodes October 7 on Prime Video, a modern reimagining of Stephen King’s 1974 novel from the horror filmmaker behind The Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass.

About the Carrie Series

Carrie is the first time Stephen King’s debut novel has been adapted as a television series. King’s 1974 book became a horror cornerstone and has been filmed several times, starting with Brian De Palma’s 1976 movie starring Sissy Spacek and running through a 2002 TV film, a 2013 remake, and a Broadway musical, but never before as an ongoing show. Flanagan serves as showrunner, writer, and director, and his version stretches the story across eight episodes rather than a single feature, updating Carrie White’s world for the social-media age and filling in the characters around her.

The core of the story stays intact. Carrie is a bullied teenager raised by a religiously fanatical mother, and her emerging telekinetic powers build toward a prom night that goes catastrophically wrong. Flanagan is known for character-driven horror on Netflix with The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass, and The Fall of the House of Usher. He has adapted King before, directing the films Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep, and Carrie extends that partnership into a full series. The longer format gives him room to develop the people around Carrie, from her mother Margaret to classmates Sue Snell and Chris Hargensen, and to set the familiar story of teenage cruelty in an era of phones and social media.

The Cast

Newcomer Summer H. Howell plays Carrie White, cast after nearly 1,500 actors read for the role. The ensemble includes several familiar horror and genre names:

  • Summer H. Howell as Carrie White
  • Samantha Sloyan as Margaret White, Carrie’s mother
  • Siena Agudong as Sue Snell
  • Alison Thornton as Chris Hargensen
  • Joel Oulette as Tommy Ross
  • Josie Totah as Tina
  • Arthur Conti as Billy
  • Thalia Dudek as Emaline
  • Amber Midthunder (Prey) as Miss Desjardin
  • Matthew Lillard (Scream, Scooby-Doo) as Principal Grayle

The casting leans on recognizable genre faces around a newcomer lead. Amber Midthunder broke out as the star of the Predator prequel Prey, and Matthew Lillard carries a long horror history that runs from the original Scream to the Scooby-Doo films and Five Nights at Freddy’s. Summer H. Howell, by contrast, is a relative unknown stepping into one of horror’s most famous teenage roles.

When and Where to Watch

Carrie premieres October 7 on Prime Video, with all eight episodes released at once worldwide rather than on a weekly schedule, so the whole story is available to watch in one sitting, landing about three weeks before Halloween. It is one of several new horror titles arriving on streaming this Halloween season, which we track in our Halloween 2026 Streaming Guide. The official trailer is out now.
