From Jessica Lange’s return in American Horror Story: 13 to Mike Flanagan’s take on Carrie, the new horror hitting streaming this Halloween is stacked. This guide rounds up every new movie and series, where to watch it and when, plus what to stream to prep for Halloween Horror Nights and Disney’s Halloween parties. We will keep adding to it as more titles land through October.
New Horror Movies to Stream
- The Last Kiss (digital, September 15): Blumhouse Atomic Monster’s teen slasher, starring Mckenna Grace as a girl cursed to see how anyone she kisses will die. When a vision shows her crush doomed, she races to unmask the killer. It is out to buy or rent with no subscription. Read our full coverage.
- The Backrooms (HBO Max, September 25): A24’s feature take on the online horror phenomenon makes its streaming debut. The film brings the endless maze of empty yellow rooms, and the dread of being lost in them, to the screen, and it arrives as A24’s highest-grossing film to date. Read our full coverage.
- The Nice Ones (on demand, September 29): a British psychological horror film from writer-director Peter Stylianou, out to buy or rent from Level 33 Entertainment. Kate joins her boyfriend’s friends at a remote countryside house, strange lights appear overhead, and one by one the group turns unnervingly calm and kind, leaving her the only one who senses something is wrong. Stylianou cites The Thing and Invasion of the Body Snatchers as touchstones, with Joelle Rae (The Witcher) as Kate.
- Evil Dead Burn (HBO Max, October 2): the sixth Evil Dead film makes its streaming debut exclusively on HBO Max, then airs on HBO on Saturday, October 3 at 8 p.m. ET, after Evil Dead (2013) at 4:45 p.m. and Evil Dead Rise at 6:20 p.m. After losing her husband, a woman seeks comfort with his family at their secluded home, and one by one they turn into Deadites. Sébastien Vaniček directs, Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert produce, and Souheila Yacoub and Hunter Doohan star. It is also a haunted house at Halloween Horror Nights in Orlando and Hollywood this year. - R.L. Stine’s Pumpkinhead 2 (Tubi, October 9): a family-friendly Tubi original based on a story by R.L. Stine, with Cassandra Peterson (Elvira) as a witch named Cassandra. A new Pumpkinhead curse awakens in the town of Redhaven, and it streams free and ad-supported as part of Terror on Tubi. It follows the 2025 Tubi hit R.L. Stine’s Pumpkinhead and is not related to the 1988 creature feature. Read our full coverage.
- The Teenage Vampire (digital and on demand, October 27): a Lionsgate horror thriller. Sandra (Jazlyn Nicolette Sward) moves into a chic bungalow in the Hollywood Hills and finds out her landlords are ancient vampires, and her first party guests become their victims. It is out to buy or rent with no subscription.
- Apocalypse Z: New World (Prime Video, October 30): the sequel to Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End, which Prime Video says is among its most-watched titles internationally. The Canary Islands are Europe’s last refuge after the outbreak, and a supply run to the mainland turns into a fight to survive the infected. Carles Torrens returns to direct the Spanish production, and it streams in more than 240 countries and territories. It has its U.S. premiere at Screamfest in Los Angeles on October 13.
New and Returning Horror Series
- The Terror: Devil in Silver (AMC, Sundays at 9/8c through an October 25 finale, every episode streaming now on AMC+): the new season of the horror anthology stars Dan Stevens as Pepper, a moving man wrongfully committed to New Hyde Psychiatric Hospital, where the doctors keep grim secrets and the Devil himself may be on the ward.
- American Horror Story: 13 (FX, September 24, then Hulu the next day): the anthology drops its standalone-season format to bring back Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, and the Coven witches for a season built on the number 13. It runs 13 half-hour episodes through a finale on October 29. Read our full coverage.
- Ghost Adventures (Discovery Channel, September 30, then discovery+ and HBO Max the next day): Zak Bagans, Aaron Goodwin, Jay Wasley, and Billy Tolley return for a new season, investigating locations with violent histories, from a Las Vegas warehouse to an Oregon home the team describes as some of the darkest places they have faced.
- Coven Academy (Freeform, October 1, then Disney+, Hulu, and Freeform on Demand the next day): Freeform’s new supernatural teen drama set at a school for young witches. The full season lands the day after the premiere, so you can stream it all at once. Read our full coverage.
- Carrie (Prime Video, October 7): Mike Flanagan’s eight-episode reimagining of Stephen King’s novel, the first time Carrie has been told as a series. Flanagan, of The Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass, updates the story for the social-media age, and all eight episodes drop at once. Read our full coverage.
- Vampirina: Teenage Vampire, season 2 (Disney Channel, October 6, then the full season on Disney+ the next day): the live-action musical series follows Vee (Kenzi Richardson), a young vampire hiding her identity at a human performing arts school. This season she tries to make sense of a prophecy that says she and Elijah (Shaun Dixon) can never be together, and Jodie Sweetin and Ava Jean join as recurring guest stars.
- Is It Cake? Halloween, season 2 (Netflix, October 9): host Mikey Day is back with six hyper-realistic cake artists building spooky cakes to trick celebrity judges. What’s on Netflix reports the season drops October 9 with three 40-minute episodes, and one episode’s judges are Wednesday stars Hunter Doohan, Joy Sunday, and Isaac Ordonez.
- The Pet Cemetery Murders: A Ghost Story (HBO and HBO Max, Sundays at 9 p.m. ET/PT, October 11 to 25): a three-part HBO documentary series about the 1985 killing of Dorothy Lou Thompson, the owner of a pet cemetery built on land long rumored to be cursed, in the bayou outside New Orleans. A detective reopened the cold case in 2009, and two witnesses later came forward saying her ghost haunted them.
- Crystal Lake (Peacock, October 15): Peacock and A24’s Friday the 13th prequel, the origin of Jason Voorhees told through his mother, Pamela (Linda Cardellini), set in 1971. All eight hour-long episodes drop at once. Read our full coverage.
- YAGA (AMC+, October 23): an AMC+ supernatural thriller starring Carrie-Anne Moss, Noah Reid, and Hudson Williams. A private investigator looking into a young heir’s disappearance in a small coastal town runs into secret lives and ancient magic. It premieres with two episodes, then runs weekly to a November 27 finale.
- IT: Welcome to Derry (HBO Max, October 26): the IT prequel series starring Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise, set in 1962 and rolling out weekly across nine episodes. It expands the world of Stephen King’s IT ahead of Halloween and beyond, and it has already been renewed for a second season. Read our full coverage.
Also New This Season: Shudder’s Season of Screams
Shudder, the horror-first streamer, is running its Season of Screams through October with a lineup of new originals. A few worth queuing up:
- V/H/S/Mixtape (October 9): the ninth entry in the found-footage anthology, built around music and sound, with segments from Ernest Dickerson, RZA, David Moreau, and Renee Zhan.
- Infirmary (October 9): found-footage horror set in an abandoned psychiatric hospital, where a guard vanishes on his first night.
- Hallowarrior (October 23): a last-girl-on-earth survival story set on Halloween, as a lone survivor fends off a gang of raiders.
- Big Baby (October 30): a horror writer’s script about a killer in a baby mask starts bleeding into real life, from director Spider One and executive producer Cher.
- Hunting Matthew Nichols (October 31): a documentary filmmaker reopens her brother’s disappearance and finds he may still be alive.
AMC FearFest on AMC and AMC+
AMC’s FearFest turns 30 this year, and the Crypt Keeper from Tales From the Crypt is back to host it, voiced again by John Kassir in a puppet rebuilt by The Walking Dead director Greg Nicotero. The marathon starts Thursday, October 1 on AMC and AMC+, with more than 650 hours of horror films, series, and specials through October. Free Halloween Streaming
If you would rather not add a subscription, Tubi’s Terror on Tubi lineup runs through October with free, ad-supported horror, including the new R.L. Stine’s Pumpkinhead 2. It is one of the easiest no-cost ways to get in the Halloween mood, and it is a good fit for families looking for scares that stay on the lighter side.

- Stranger Things (Netflix): Stranger Things 5 gets both a house and a show at HHN Orlando, so catch up before the final season.

- Evil Dead (streaming across services): the Evil Dead Burn house draws on the franchise, and the earlier Evil Dead films are a good primer.

In Theaters This Halloween
Not everything this season is on streaming. A24’s upcoming Slayground sets a horror movie inside a working haunted attraction, and its teaser is now on A24’s YouTube channel with a countdown running into late October. In cinemas, Regal is showing the original Halloween trilogy and a weekly 31 Screams on Screen series, and AMC is screening five horror classics in its Welcome to Horrorwood lineup hosted by Ice Nine Kills frontman Spencer Charnas.
When to Watch, by Date
The season’s premieres come in a steady run from mid-September right up to Halloween. The Last Kiss led off on September 15, followed by The Terror: Devil in Silver on September 20, American Horror Story: 13 on September 24, The Backrooms on September 25, The Nice Ones on September 29, Ghost Adventures on September 30, Coven Academy and AMC’s FearFest on October 1, Evil Dead Burn on October 2, Vampirina: Teenage Vampire season 2 on October 6, Carrie on October 7, Pumpkinhead 2, V/H/S/Mixtape, and Is It Cake? Halloween on October 9, The Pet Cemetery Murders on October 11, Crystal Lake on October 15, YAGA on October 23, IT: Welcome to Derry on October 26, The Teenage Vampire on October 27, and Apocalypse Z: New World on October 30. That gives most weekends of the season at least one new title to stream, right up to Halloween night.
