Los Angeles, CA — The Halloween card drive at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles is open, and every card sent earns the hospital $1 from the LA Kings, up to $50,000. Sending one is free: pick one of three designs on the hospital’s site and add a message, and the hospital prints the cards for patients to color and hands them out at its Pumpkin Party.
How to Send a Card
- Choose one of three designs: “Trunk-or-treat!” with an elephant dressed as a jack-o’-lantern, “BOO! Happy Halloween!” with a giraffe under a ghost sheet at the beach, and “Have a Spell-tacular Halloween!” with a peacock in a witch’s hat riding a broom.
- Add a message: the hospital asks for Halloween greetings instead of get-well wishes.
- Send it: it costs nothing. The card shows in color on the screen, and that is a preview. The hospital prints the designs as coloring cards, and the kids color them.

What to Write in the Card
From the hospital’s card page:
To help keep the celebration upbeat and positive for kids, please focus on the spirit of Halloween rather than “get well” notes. Due to the volume of cards and our current safety guidelines, please note that we cannot deliver specific cards to specific patients.
Where the Cards and the Kings’ $1 Go
The hospital prints the cards and hand-delivers them, “along with other special goodies,” during its Pumpkin Party, according to the page a sender sees after submitting a card. Each card unlocks “a $1 donation from the LA Kings, up to $50,000,” the same page says. Cards must be sent by October 30, according to the hospital’s card page. NBC Los Angeles reported that the money goes to the hospital’s Children’s Fund.
Spirit Halloween’s Hospital Coupon and Free Halloween Events for Kids
Spirit Halloween’s 10-for-10 coupon takes 10% off a purchase and donates a matching 10% to a children’s hospital near the store. Its charity, Spirit of Children, has raised more than $164 million for children’s hospitals since 2007 and has a $20 million goal for 2026, and Spirit of Children Week runs October 12 through 16. My free Halloween events for kids guide lists the free store events this month by date, including 500 prize tickets for every kid in costume at Chuck E. Cheese and PetSmart’s pet trick-or-treating on October 17 and 25.
The card drive is on the hospital’s Halloween card page through October 30.
