Pennywise is coming back. HBO has renewed IT: Welcome to Derry for a second season, and the new episodes will jump back to 1935 and the Great Depression. Season two centers on the bloody massacre of the Bradley Gang, a crew of bank robbers who stop in Derry to buy ammunition and end up facing unimaginable horror.

A Top-Four HBO Max Premiere
The HBO Original drama, from Warner Bros. Television and executive produced by Andy and Barbara Muschietti, ranked among the top four series premieres globally in HBO Max history. The eight-episode first season is available to stream on HBO Max now, which gives new viewers time to catch up before the horror expands.
What Changes for Season 2
Brad Caleb Kane will serve as showrunner on season two. The series is set in Stephen King’s IT universe, based on his novel, and expands the world Andy Muschietti built in the feature films IT and IT Chapter Two. Where season one worked its way through Derry’s cursed history, season two moves the story to 1935, dropping the Bradley Gang into a town where the terror runs far deeper than anything they came to rob.
HBO Max’s Sarah Aubrey said the team will “break new ground in season two,” deepening the mystery and the Pennywise lore, while the Muschiettis called continuing to expand King’s world an absolute privilege.
Who’s Behind It
Produced by HBO and Warner Bros. Television, IT: Welcome to Derry is executive produced by Andy and Barbara Muschietti through their Double Dream company, along with Brad Caleb Kane, Roy Lee, Dan Lin, Jamie Travis, and Dhana Gilbert. HBO has not announced an official premiere date, though Deadline reports season two is expected in late 2027.
