Resident Evil debuts at Horror Unleashed Las Vegas 2026

Update, July 8, 2026: Universal Destinations & Experiences released the official press materials for the Resident Evil takeover on July 7. Universal now names the takeover’s six zones (Arrival, Mission, Infection, Combat, Escape, Aftermath), confirms the official open-to-close window of July 9 through August 30, and confirms that the takeover is included with General Admission to Universal Horror Unleashed. Read our coverage of the official announcement. The original soft-launch reporting below remains the most detailed on-the-ground look at the experience.

Las Vegas, NV — A Resident Evil takeover soft-launched at Universal Horror Unleashed at AREA15 in Las Vegas on June 25, 2026, turning the venue’s common areas into Raccoon City. The experience includes a Raccoon Police Department façade, escape puzzles, live actors playing Leon S. Kennedy, Claire Redfield, and Nemesis, roaming zombies, and an Umbrella Corporation Cafe with co-branded Resident Evil dining.

Universal has not yet issued an official press release for the event. On-the-ground photos and explainers were released by Stitch Kingdom, which also wrote a review on Full House of Horrors, and coverage from Attractions Magazine. All photos in this report are by @stitchkingdom on X.

The teased summer slot is here

In my coverage of the Monsterpalooza panel on May 30, Universal Horror Unleashed laid out a 2026 calendar that included a “June through August” marquee summer event built around a major movie or TV property. Universal did not name it at the time, saying it would be announced on social media. The Resident Evil takeover fits exactly that slot, runs through August per Full House of Horrors, and arrives via a soft launch rather than a press release, which matches the panel’s stated “announced on social media” approach.

It also lands squarely on assistant director of entertainment Del Wynegar’s panel framing of UHU’s strategy. Wynegar said the venue is “trying everything and seeing what works” and that “our guests go nuts for interactivity.” A Capcom-licensed IP overlay built around escape-room puzzles, themed dining, and roaming characters is exactly the interactivity-first, IP-driven overlay programming Wynegar described.

Raccoon City in Sin City

The takeover is an overlay on the venue’s existing common areas. The four core haunted houses (Universal Monsters, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Scarecrow: The Reaping, and Blumhouse’s The Exorcist: Believer) are unchanged. What is new is the surrounding warehouse, scare-zone, and food-and-beverage footprint, reframed around Raccoon City.

The R.P.D. station anchors the experience and serves as the gathering point for missions. Guests are randomly assigned one of three escape-room-style puzzles at the police station set, then progress through a multi-stage challenge that includes a traffic-light cryptogram and a finale outside in the venue’s patio area, all while evading zombies and other Resident Evil threats.

The character roster is broad. Leon S. Kennedy, Claire Redfield, Jill Valentine, Ada Wong, and Brad Vickers are reported across sources as live characters, alongside R.P.D. officers and zombies. Nemesis and a Licker are reported as roaming threats. Albert Wesker is referenced in officer dialogue, but appears to be a lore nod rather than a live character.

Food & Beverage

During the same panel, Universal Horror Unleashed mentioned expanding its seasonal menu, and it seems to be showing now with this Resident Evil overlay. Jack’s Alley was converted into the Umbrella Corporation Cafe with a full Resident Evil-themed menu. Items include the T-Virus Trio, a flight of three Tito’s gelatin shots served in syringes, plus an “undead hash” and an “R.P.D. raspberry blood-filled donut” served in an Umbrella biohazard bag. The headline souvenir item is the Biohazard Elixir, a co-branded Umbrella / Horror Unleashed beaker with a spiral straw priced around $35 (reported by Full House of Horrors as the only Resident Evil merchandise available at launch). Jack and Chance’s stage show and The Juggler were displaced to Premiere House for the takeover, which is now running an elevated menu including a 32 oz tomahawk steak priced around $200.

The Reward

Completing both task cards in the escape route earns a discount on a gift-shop purchase (the Fandom wiki specifies 40% off one item, while Full House of Horrors confirms a discount but not the percentage). At soft launch, there was no Resident Evil-specific merchandise stocked yet beyond the Biohazard Elixir beaker, and the discount reportedly will not apply to forthcoming event merchandise.

Included with Fraidy Cat Passes

The Resident Evil takeover is included with general admission, which means it is accessible even with the $30 Fraidy Cat ticket, the venue’s lowest tier that grants common-area, dining, and entertainment access but excludes the four haunted houses.

The Seasonal Strategy

A Resident Evil interactive overlay for $30 could be a competitive product for Universal Horror Unleashed to sell in the Las Vegas market, although the market already has a lot of escape-room competition. Jason Egan’s properties, including EscapeIT, the Blair Witch Escape Experience, and The John Wick Experience, sit in the $50-$90 escape-and-immersion segment. A $30 Fraidy Cat ticket is cheaper and could be a great event for fans, although it’s lacking the buildout of a 90-minute Egan escape room. Resident Evil is one of the most successful video game franchises in the world, and it will let UHU pull in audiences who would not have otherwise spent on the haunts.

However, doing escape-game-flavored experiences in Las Vegas at lower prices is now a crowded enough lane that even a strong IP overlay may struggle to differentiate against operators who specialize in the format.

Both can be true. The Fraidy Cat tier is cheap enough, and the IP is strong. Whether that combination converts at scale, or whether the format gets compared unfavorably to a dedicated Egan escape room, is the question this summer will answer.
