Los Angeles, CA — Eight guests take a seat at a candlelit table, a host who studies what waits beyond the veil begins to work, and the story that unfolds depends on the choices they make. That is Through the Veil, an immersive theatrical séance from Stage Fright Theater Co., playing Heritage Square Museum on September 19 and 26 and Broken Spirits in Anaheim on September 30.
About the Séance
Through the Veil is not a traditional play, and it is not a real séance. Stage Fright Theater Co. calls it an update of the old Victorian-style Spirit Show, the parlor performances of the late 1800s in which a medium staged contact with the dead, rebuilt here with a mix of vintage and modern stagecraft. The audience sits around the séance table alongside the performer, which keeps the group small and the encounter close. About eight guests take part in each sitting, and a full séance runs roughly 30 to 45 minutes.
What happens is not fixed. The show is built so the audience’s choices steer the story, which means no two séances play out the same way. The stories are drawn from historic true crimes, often tied to the specific venue where the séance is held, so the building itself becomes part of the plot. Blending character-driven storytelling, atmospheric staging, audience interaction, and old theatrical séance techniques, the production puts the audience inside the encounter rather than watching it from a distance.
Ambrose T. Attaway and the Mourners
Guests are met by a group of Mourners, who invite them to take a seat at the table. The séance is led by Ambrose T. Attaway, the show’s host and guide, described in the company’s materials as an investigator of “things best left unexplained and an admirer of what waits beyond the veil.” Ambrose welcomes the group into his séance parlor and leads them through an encounter that grows steadily more unsettling as the sitting goes on. Because the character sits at the table with the guests rather than performing at them, the séance reads as a conversation the audience is part of.

Stage Fright Theater Co. is a Southern California theater company that specializes in spooky theater, immersive experiences, original characters, and Halloween live entertainment. It was founded by Candy Buck, Aaron Buck, and Ryan Pena, and Through the Veil was created by Winston Peacock.
