About Brutal Rust
Brutal Rust has made water-based paint products and architectural coatings since 2010, with a focus on faux rust, corrosion and decay. Shayne Torrans founded the company and serves as its chief creative officer. The namesake Brutal Rust kit pairs the paint with RedOx Activator to rust props and set pieces made of PVC, wood, metal, drywall, cardboard, concrete or fabric. Brutal Decay creates water damage and grime, Spore and Quarantine create mold, Fallout rusts props, weaponry and armor, and Flex-Coat Cement and Lemp Brick give the look of concrete and brick without the weight. The lineup also includes Scoria, and the company publishes how-to manuals for its main product lines.
According to the company, its products have been used in more than 2,500 haunted attractions worldwide, hundreds of escape rooms, film and television productions and theater, with orders shipped to North and South America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Its scenic team also builds props and sets, including tanks, Czech hedgehogs, haunted houses and trade show booths. Products are made in house and most items are built to order, with larger pieces taking 6 to 8 weeks or more to ship.
Brutal Rust received the Haunted Attraction Association’s Vendor Excellence award in 2015, the same year Torrans was elected to the HAA board. It exhibited at TransWorld’s Halloween & Attractions Show 2026 at Booth 630.
