Pamela Voorhees is back, and this time the story is hers. Peacock has released the trailer for Crystal Lake, its Friday the 13th prequel series, which premieres all eight episodes Thursday, October 15. Linda Cardellini stars as Pamela Voorhees, years before her son Jason became a horror icon.
About Crystal Lake
Crystal Lake is a prequel to Friday the 13th that tells the origin of Jason Voorhees through his mother. Set in 1971, it follows Pamela Voorhees, a single mother who cannot shake her grief after her young, sickly son Jason drowned in the town lake about a year earlier, before the killings that made Camp Crystal Lake infamous. The trailer opens on Cardellini as Pamela in that period, reframing the franchise’s original villain as its lead.
The series is a collaboration between Peacock and A24, and it is created, written, and run by Brad Caleb Kane, who also serves as executive producer. It brings the Friday the 13th saga to television as a character study of the woman behind the first film’s twist, rather than a straight slasher.
For longtime fans, centering Pamela is pointed. In the 1980 original, it was Pamela, not Jason, who stalked Camp Crystal Lake’s counselors to avenge the son she believed drowned through their neglect. Crystal Lake rewinds to the years that shaped her, following a grieving mother toward the events that turn her into the saga’s first killer, and the trailer tracks that arc from her quiet 1971 life to the horror it curdles into. The series also marks another step in A24’s push into franchise and television horror, landing in a Halloween season crowded with new streaming titles.

The Cast
- Linda Cardellini as Pamela Voorhees
- Callum Vinson as young Jason Voorhees
- William Catlett, Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins, and Gwendolyn Sundstrom in additional roles
Cardellini is no stranger to the genre or to camp settings, with credits that run from Scooby-Doo to the horror-tinged dark comedy Dead to Me. Here she leads the series as the franchise’s most infamous mother.
Crystal Lake Premieres October 15 on Peacock
All eight hour-long episodes of Crystal Lake drop at once on Thursday, October 15, streaming exclusively on Peacock. Peacock set that date back in July and released the official trailer and first-look key art today. Peacock is NBCUniversal’s subscription streaming service, so unlike some of this season’s free options, a subscription is required to watch.
Crystal Lake is one of several new horror titles hitting streaming this Halloween. See our Halloween 2026 Streaming Guide for the full lineup of what to watch and when. Jason is having a big season off-screen too, including the new JASON: Blood Reign maze at Six Flags Fright Fest.
