The haunt community’s favorite Christmas movie is finally getting the ice treatment. Disney Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas headlines Gaylord Hotels’ 2026 ice! lineup as one of three new themes, running at Gaylord Rockies outside Denver from November 20, 2026 through January 3, 2027. Jack Skellington’s collision of Halloween Town and Christmas Town will be told across more than 10 walkthrough scenes hand-carved from ice, and the announcement renderings already show Christmas Town rebuilt in frozen color.
What ice! Actually Is
If you have never done a Gaylord ice! season, the format is simple and the execution is not. More than 300 artisans from Harbin, China, the city behind the world-famous Harbin Ice Festival, spend roughly 40 days hand-carving 60,000 blocks into floor-to-ceiling story scenes, kept at a constant 9 degrees Fahrenheit while guests walk through in loaner parkas. Each edition runs two-story ice slides and photo moments between the story beats. It is the closest thing the holiday season has to a haunted-house walkthrough build: a licensed story, told room by room, by a specialist crew working against a brutal deadline, then maintained nightly through the run. HAN has covered the program since 2019, when it ran at five properties. In 2026 it hits eight.
Why This One Matters for Halloween People
The Nightmare Before Christmas is the industry’s great crossover property, the IP that lets a Halloween brand operate in December, and Gaylord putting it at the center of a Christmas attraction is the reverse play: a Christmas operator borrowing Halloween’s icon to differentiate a holiday product. Oogie Boogie Bash sells out on the Halloween side, Haunted Mansion Holiday dresses Disneyland’s mansion in Jack’s world every winter, and now Jack gets a dedicated ice build a short drive from Denver’s haunt scene. For haunters, it lands in the dead zone between teardown and TransWorld, which makes it a legitimate field trip: the scenic problem ice! solves every year, translating a stylized film world into walkable, durable, crowd-proof scenes on a 40-day build clock, is the same problem a haunted attraction solves in foam and latex.
