Coven Academy, Freeform’s new supernatural teen drama, premieres Thursday, October 1 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. The full season arrives the next day, October 2, on Disney+, Hulu, and Freeform on Demand, so you can stream it all at once rather than week to week.

What Coven Academy is about

Set in the haunted heart of New Orleans, Coven Academy follows three teenage witches and their dangerously charming warlock peers at an elite magic boarding school where, in Freeform’s words, “power is currency, secrets are lethal and attraction is a liability.” Caught between ancient supernatural wars and forbidden crushes, the coven has to decide how far it will go to protect its city, and itself.

The show is built for bingeing, told in a run of short, fast-paced chapters rather than hour-long episodes. The teaser trailer sets the mood with Olivia Rodrigo’s “Brutal,” teasing the mystery around Briar’s past and Jake’s dangerous streak.

The Coven Academy cast

Malina Pauli Weissman (A Series of Unfortunate Events) stars as Briar, a fiercely independent New Yorker who discovers she is a witch. Malachi Barton (Zombies 4, Camp Rock 3) plays Jake, a magnetic warlock with a dangerous edge. Jordan Leftwich (The Family Switch) is Sasha, an empath who can read minds. Ora Duplass plays Tegan, a time-bending witch, and Louis Thresher (Boarders) is Ollie, a newly turned vampire. Tiffani Thiessen (White Collar, 90210) plays Miss Graves, the glamorous head of the school, and Devon Sawa (Chucky, Final Destination) guest stars as Mr. Cole, a charismatic warlock professor. The recurring cast includes Swayam Bhatia, Brendon Tremblay, Keegan Connor Tracy, BJ Harrison, and Nathaniel Logan McIntyre.

Who made it

Coven Academy comes from creator and executive producer Tim Federle, the mind behind High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. He executive produces alongside Darren Swimmer, Todd Slavkin, Amanda Row, and Bronwyn North-Reist, and the series is produced by Federle’s Chorus Boy Productions with Disney Kids & Family.
