The storybook is bleeding. Ever After, an independent horror film billed as “the bloodiest fairy tale,” opens exclusively in theaters on September 4, 2026, with a stacked bench of horror-genre faces and a premise that drags Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf into a survival slasher. An On Demand release follows on October 27.
The setup is a familiar horror hook with a twist. A group of friends heads to a remote forest lodge for a bachelorette weekend, only to find the surrounding woods run by violent fanatics who believe they are the heroes and villains of classic fairy tales. As night falls, warped versions of Little Red Riding Hood, the Big Bad Wolf, the Evil Witch, and Prince Charming step out of the trees, and the trip becomes a brutal fight to get out alive.
A cast built from horror history
The draw here is the ensemble. Ever After lines up a row of instantly recognizable genre veterans. Kane Hodder played Jason Voorhees across multiple Friday the 13th films. Bonnie Aarons is the demonic Valak from The Nun. Michael Berryman is the face of The Hills Have Eyes. Malcolm McDowell starred in A Clockwork Orange, and Mark Sheppard is a fan-favorite from Supernatural. The rest of the cast includes Maria De Sa, Lydia Pearl Pentz, Meg Vermette, Philippe Reinhardt, Lara Sas, Miklos Bela Szekely, and Riana Emma Balla.
The film comes from writer-director Laszlo Illes, who co-wrote it with Laszlo Krisztian Gera, and it leans on practical creature effects and large-scale set pieces rather than digital work. It runs 125 minutes and carries a TV-14 rating.
When and where to see it
Ever After plays exclusively in theaters starting September 4, 2026, and moves to On Demand on October 27. It is distributed by Level 33 Entertainment.
