The Scandi-styled collection, distinctly cute rather than scary, joins Bath & Body Works, Michaels, and Spirit Halloween in putting Halloween on retail shelves by midsummer.

Conshohocken, PA — IKEA is bringing back its KUSTFYR Halloween decor collection for 2026, joining Bath & Body Works, Michaels, and Spirit Halloween among the major retailers with Halloween on shelves by midsummer. The collection is available now on the IKEA US website and in stores.

IKEA describes the collection as “back” rather than new, with Scandinavian styling that leans cute over creepy. “Looking to celebrate Halloween with charm rather than chills?” reads the retailer’s promotional copy. “IKEA is your one-stop shop for decorations, lights, and accessories that set the right mood.” The KUSTFYR characters are a cat, a bat, a spider, and a ghost, described by IKEA as “sweet, spooky and ready to party.”

IKEA’s return follows a string of 2026 Halloween moves from national retailers. Bath & Body Works launched its haunted-carnival collection anchored by a $275 hero luminary. Michaels debuted six themed collections. Spirit Halloween is opening a record 1,575 stores and hiring 52,000 workers.

What’s in the collection

KUSTFYR was designed by Marta Krupińska for IKEA of Sweden, with additional pieces by James Dart. The lineup covers most standard Halloween-decor categories, styled around the four characters:

  • Lighting: a battery-operated outdoor LED pendant lamp shaped like a pumpkin, a pumpkin LED table lamp, a ghost-shaped decorative LED table lamp, and outdoor LED light chains in ghost and pumpkin styles.
  • Tabletop: side plates, stoneware mugs, trays, a lidded stoneware bowl shaped like a bat, and a lidded clear-glass ghost bowl for candy.
  • Baking: cookie cutters, ghost- and spider-patterned baking cups, and coordinated tea towels.
  • Textiles: throw blankets, cushion covers in ghost and pumpkin patterns, and coir door mats featuring cats and ghosts.
  • Candles: scented block candles, tealight holders including a metal spider silhouette, and a black-steel-and-glass lantern.
  • Trick-or-treat and storage: paper hanging decorations (ghosts, spiders, bats), self-adhesive window decorations, and a spider-pattern 13-liter tote that IKEA notes doubles as post-season storage.

Designer’s framing

“I always try to sneak a little playfulness into what I do,” Krupińska said in IKEA’s press materials. “We humans need joy and I love seeing adults let their inner child take the lead when they see something cool and want it. I hope to evoke this same feeling in you with the KUSTFYR collection.”

Dart designed the spider tealight holder. “Imagine if a bewitched spider suddenly appeared carrying a candle across a table while you celebrate Halloween. Magic! This thought gave me the idea for KUSTFYR tealight holder,” Dart said.

Retail is the first wave

As I noted in the July 6 newsletter, retail is the first wave of Halloween, priming consumers for everything that comes after, including seasonal attractions. IKEA’s return adds a kid-friendly, Scandi-styled entry alongside the season’s horror-genre plays, and it puts one more national retailer in front of consumers months before the first haunt opens its doors.
