Orlando, FL — Universal is taking you to a remote Southwestern homestead overrun by aliens with a new original haunted house, “Invasion: Alien Abduction,” for Halloween Horror Nights 2026. The house completes Universal Orlando’s five-original-concept slate for the 35th-anniversary event and is the first original alien-abduction house in the event’s history.
From Universal: “Just Announced: INVASION: Alien Abduction. Make contact with horrors from worlds unknown in this haunted house, where a ship full of Grays have torn apart a remote homestead in search of fresh test subjects,” Universal said in its announcement on the @HorrorNightsORL social channels.
What is Invasion: Alien Abduction?
Guests enter the middle of an in-progress abduction. A ship of “Grays,” the large-eyed gray-skinned aliens of UFO folklore, has descended on a remote Southwestern homestead and is tearing the property apart, snatching the family and its livestock for experiments.
Senior show director Charles Gray told Nerdist the team deliberately set the house apart from the campy 1950s sci-fi tone the subject usually invites. “When you do the little gray men or the aliens, it can quickly get humorous. It can quickly get kitsche and cheesy,” Gray said. “In Invasion: Alien Abduction, we really wanted to tell a story of the horrific moment at night when they are coming to take you. And that’s frightening.” He described the result as “almost home invasion type of horror and fear.”
Gray also moved the setting away from the cliche cornfield. The house takes place in the Southwest, “a little bit of that kind of turquoise and cactusy flavor to it,” he said. “That’s the area where I kind of grew up.”
About the Design
Gray confirmed several new effects and design choices in the Nerdist interview. The house uses a vibrating floor to make guests feel the ship’s power overhead and the homestead “shaking apart.” The two-football-field-sized alien craft itself is rendered using lights as the character rather than a physical ship, with large tentacles that deploy smaller “organic claws that can puncture you, pull you into the ship.”
Guests will encounter multiple distinct types of Grays so the same character does not appear over and over. Their silhouettes look familiar from a distance but get “really horrific” up close, with claws and teeth. Performers were given a unique movement style, described by Gray as a kind of shuffling that distinguishes the aliens from human attackers. The aliens are framed as indifferent rather than malicious. “The scariest thing would be that they just don’t care,” Gray told Nerdist. “Like the little kid with the magnifying glass. Goats and cows and people, it doesn’t matter.”
Gray also teased two effects he could not yet reveal, “one technological thing we’re experimenting with this year and one new scare for this location,” and warned guests with weak stomachs to “prepare,” citing what he called an unexpected amount of gore and violence and the tightness of the attacks. He confirmed the house is intended as a standalone “first chapter” with no ties to existing HHN lore. Within the event’s “Infernal Carnival of Nightmares” framing, Gray said Invasion “most definitely leans towards the chaos.”
Halloween Horror Nights 2026
Halloween Horror Nights 2026 marks the event’s 35th anniversary under the theme “Infernal Carnival of Nightmares,” with Jack the Clown and Dr. Oddfellow returning as co-icons. Invasion: Alien Abduction is the fifth and final original concept house on the slate, joining the Jack & Oddfellow icon house, H.R. Bloodengutz Presents: A Halloween Fright-Tacular!, Madlands: Caged Cannibals, and Cybergoria. The IP houses revealed so far are based on the Ryan Coogler film Sinners and Netflix’s Stranger Things, drawing from the show’s fifth and final season. Three IP houses remain to be announced.

Halloween Horror Nights 2026 at Universal Studios Florida runs 48 select nights from Aug. 28 through Nov. 1, the most in the event’s 35-year history. The separate Hollywood event runs 42 nights from Sept. 3 through Nov. 1, with a partially distinct lineup. Invasion: Alien Abduction is exclusive to the Orlando event.
