Skeleton Sam’s Deadtime Stories, the new Halloween album from LVCRFT, is 27 tracks set up as a late-night horror broadcast, hosted by Roger L. Jackson, the voice of Ghostface, with songs from Robert Englund, Heather Langenkamp, and Bruce Campbell. LVCRFT also writes the music for the Queen Mary’s Dark Harbor and the LA Haunted Hayride, and three haunt-industry names are on the album: Amy Hollaman, Jon Cooke, and Monte Revolta.

About the Album

The album came out October 1 on streaming services, and it runs 59 minutes. LVCRFT’s site calls it “a late-night horror broadcast that clawed its way out of somebody’s basement,” with songs, skits, and trailers for movies that nobody can watch yet. Jackson, the voice of Ghostface since 1996, introduces the stories between the songs.

  • Robert Englund and Heather Langenkamp, Freddy and Nancy from A Nightmare on Elm Street, share “Scream For Halloween” with directors Mick Garris and Robert Rodriguez.
  • John Kassir, the voice of the Crypt Keeper, is on “Dead Heart Beat.”
  • Bruce Campbell has a track named after him.
  • Ernie Hudson of Ghostbusters is on “Get In The Car” and “Possessed.”
  • Jasmin Savoy Brown of Scream and Yellowjackets sings “My Boo,” which has a music video.
  • Jenna Davis, the voice of M3GAN, sings “Devil In My Rearview.”

The album reminds me of the Crypt Keeper, because the host’s interludes between the songs set up the stories, and it’s a nice one to play in its entirety on a drive during the spooky season. Kassir’s Crypt Keeper is also hosting AMC’s FearFest this month, and the original Scream is back in theaters on October 30.

Who Is LVCRFT?

LVCRFT is a Halloween music group started in 2019 by three pop songwriters and producers, Evan “Kidd” Bogart, Amanda “MNDR” Warner, and Peter Wade. Its song “Skeleton Sam,” sung by Sarah Barrios, is the first song heard in the present-day part of Disney’s Hocus Pocus 2. The group also makes ambient loops and custom scores for haunted attractions under the name Nightmare Soundworks.

The Haunt Names on the Album

LVCRFT’s site says the group scores the mazes and stages the live entertainment at the Queen Mary’s Dark Harbor, and writes the music for the LA Haunted Hayride and Magic of the Jack O’Lanterns. Thirteenth Floor Entertainment Group produces Dark Harbor and the Hayride.

  • Amy Hollaman, Thirteenth Floor’s director of Halloween attractions, is on “Ghost Story.”
  • Jon Cooke, the founder of the haunt design studio Plague Productions, is on “Eat You” as Johnny Plague, the name he uses with the band Winds of Plague. Plague Productions created The Conjuring: Beyond Fear, the walk-through at four Six Flags parks this fall.
  • Monte Revolta, the undead performer who leads the Hayride’s stage show of songs and jokes, is on “Creepy Crawl” and on the closing track, “Cabinet of Horrors,” with composer Christopher Young.

Skeleton Sam’s Deadtime Stories is on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, and other streaming services, and the digital album is $16.66 on Bandcamp. It is the group’s eighth album, released digitally on its Spooky Never Sleeps label, and LVCRFT says an anthology series built around the music will follow.
