Count Chocula, Boo Berry, and Franken Berry hit shelves nationwide later this month, marking the trio’s 55th anniversary. General Mills is running the Jim Henson Company puppet designs again, on all-new box art.
The new part: every box doubles as a build-your-own puppet. The cardboard is printed with cutout designs that turn the empty box into a Monster puppet.

The fuzzy Count Chocula box: October 1, $7.76, Walmart only
The collector item this year is a limited-edition fuzzy Count Chocula box, printed and finished to replicate the fleece texture of the actual puppet.
- Where: Walmart.com, exclusively
- When: starting October 1, 2026
- Price: $7.76
Last year General Mills did the same thing with a fuzzy Franken Berry box, also a Walmart.com exclusive. It moved fast. If you want the Chocula, treat October 1 as the date rather than a window.
What’s on shelves and when
The standard three-cereal collection lands at retailers nationwide later this month, meaning late July. That is early even by current Halloween standards, and roughly in line with where the rest of the season has been running.
All three are limited-edition seasonal runs. Count Chocula, Boo Berry, and Franken Berry return; General Mills has not announced Carmella Creeper or Fruit Brute for 2026.
What the companies said
“For 55 years, the Monsters have brought a smile, and a little thrill, to cereal bowls,” said Megan Brooks, Business Unit Director for Family Favorites Cereal at General Mills. “Fans loved Count Chocula, Boo Berry and Franken Berry reimagined through The Jim Henson Company’s creativity last year, so we were excited to team up again to create fresh new packaging designs that celebrate the characters and bring even more Halloween fun to store shelves.”
“Last year, our team from Jim Henson’s Creature Shop had so much fun bringing these beloved Monsters to life as puppets, and we know our fans will enjoy seeing them again this season for more memorable magic,” said Nicole Goldman, Executive Vice President of Branding for The Jim Henson Company. “And new this Halloween, we’re giving cereal and Jim Henson Company fans alike the chance to put their creativity to the test by transforming each cereal box into its own Monster puppet.”
Why the boxes keep getting collected
Monster Cereals have had a second life as collectibles for years. The characters have appeared on Crocs, in fruit snacks, and as action figures, and the annual box art is tracked closely enough that reveal photos circulate weeks before shelves stock.
Two things make the 2026 run more collectible than usual. The Henson Creature Shop puppets are physical builds photographed for the packaging rather than illustrations, and the cutout-puppet gimmick means the box is designed to be kept and used rather than recycled. A fuzzy-textured variant on top of that is a straightforward collector play.
The rest of the 2026 Halloween shelf
If you are picking up seasonal items this year, a few other things have landed recently:
- LEGO’s Halloween Skull Candle and Pumpkin Lantern, $19.99 and $29.99, out August 1
- Mondo’s Over the Garden Wall Chapter 2 figure set at $120, with three of five versions already sold out
- Lemax Spooky Town’s eight Michaels exclusives, $47.99 to $175.99
- Monster High Skullector’s horror wave, including the Universal Monsters trio at $44 each
- At Home’s 1,000-piece collection across five decor lines
The through line is that the cheap seasonal items are arriving in July now, not September. A $4 cereal box has become a dated collectible with a release calendar, which is a decent snapshot of where Halloween retail is in 2026.
