Ozzy Osbourne: Prince of Darkness opens August 28 at Universal Orlando Resort and September 3 at Universal Studios Hollywood, running through November 1 at both. It is the first haunted house built around Osbourne’s solo career, and it runs at both of Universal’s United States Halloween Horror Nights events.
The house was announced Wednesday, July 29. Osbourne died July 22, 2025, at age 76, and Universal built the house with the participation of his family. For Orlando it is the tenth and final house of HHN 35, per Fox 35 Orlando.
Universal describes the project as spanning 45 years of Osbourne’s solo career. Its copy for the house reads: “Ozzy Osbourne’s shocking image was as haunting as his heavy metal hits. Now you’ll enter the Prince of Darkness’s kingdom where music and mayhem collide — and everything’s gone off the rails.”
The Two Parks Are Building Different Houses
Both parks use the same name, and the two coasts typically run different versions of shared houses. These two are built on opposite halves of Osbourne’s career.
Universal Studios Hollywood runs the story chronologically. The house starts in Birmingham, England, home to John Michael “Ozzy” Osbourne, and opens on “Crazy Train.” Guests move forward through the decades into the Osbourne Asylum, a section drawn from the Diary of a Madman album, and through the successive versions of the Ozzy persona: Madman Ozzy, Werewolf Ozzy, and finally the Prince of Darkness, the name he earned in the 1970s.
Universal Orlando skips the origin story and goes to the heavier end of the catalogue. Guests pass through ancient ruins and dungeons before boarding the Crazy Train into a realm built from Osbourne’s album covers, specifically Diary of a Madman, Bark at the Moon, The Ultimate Sin, and Black Rain. Universal describes it as drawing on the sound and imagery that defined the later years of his career.
| Universal Orlando (HHN 35) | Universal Studios Hollywood | |
|---|---|---|
| Approach | Later, heavier era | Chronological, birth to fame |
| Setting | Ancient ruins and dungeons | Birmingham to the Osbourne Asylum |
| Album focus | Cover art from four albums | “All 13 albums,” per Universal |
| Named creative | Mike Aiello | John Murdy |
Both houses use “Crazy Train” as the through line. Music from Osbourne’s solo albums guides guests in both parks, including The Blizzard of Ozz (1980), Diary of a Madman (1981), Bark at the Moon (1983), No More Tears (1991), Scream (2010), and Ordinary Man (2020).
Sharon and Jack Osbourne on the House
“Ozzy never stopped pushing boundaries, and he loved anything that gave fans a new way to experience his music and the worlds he created,” Sharon and Jack Osbourne said in a joint statement. “Halloween Horror Nights has done an incredible job bringing that spirit to life. Walking through these haunted houses, you’ll recognize so many moments inspired by his music and imagination. It’s a wonderful tribute to Ozzy, and we hope fans have as much fun experiencing it as he would have had seeing it come together.”
Mike Aiello, senior director of entertainment creative development at Universal Orlando Resort, said the park worked with the family directly. “We are honored to collaborate with the Osbourne family to create a unique haunted house that celebrates the legacy of Ozzy Osbourne,” Aiello said. “It was important for us to create an authentic experience that brings Ozzy’s creativity and personality to life in an eerily immersive new way. Fans will discover so many meaningful details, including a few Easter Eggs, as they navigate memorable dark and twisted moments inspired by his iconic musical career.”
The house is licensed through Global Merchandising Services, Osbourne’s worldwide licensing agent, according to the company via The Music Universe.
Universal Has Built Rock Houses Before, Including One With Ozzy
“Ozzy Osbourne didn’t just help define heavy metal, he created a cultural phenomenon that has influenced generations of music, art and horror,” said John Murdy, executive producer of Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood. “We previously had the privilege of collaborating with Ozzy, and this new haunted house is an opportunity to honor his extraordinary solo career. Inspired by all 13 of his albums, guests will journey through the dark, surreal worlds that fueled his music and cemented his legacy as the one and only Prince of Darkness.”
The earlier project Murdy refers to was Black Sabbath: 13 3D, a maze at Universal Studios Hollywood in 2013 built around the band’s number one album 13. Osbourne endorsed it publicly at the time.
Universal has run other rock properties through both events. Murdy built Alice Cooper mazes at Hollywood in 2011 and 2012, and an Alice Cooper house ran at Orlando in 2012. Rob Zombie properties have appeared at both parks over the years, including a Hellbilly Deluxe scare zone at Orlando in 2019.
Merchandise
A limited-release T-shirt and an Ozzy acrylic figure are available at both parks now, and go on sale online at shopUniversal.com on Thursday, July 30 at 9 a.m. PST. The figure can be added to the Infernal Carnival collectible display, which is sold separately.
The Other Universal Parks
The house is confirmed at the two United States parks only. Universal Studios Japan’s 2026 event is built around Resident Evil Requiem: The Dive, and neither Universal Studios Singapore nor Universal Beijing has announced an Ozzy house.
