About DESPYRE
DESPYRE is a Long Island, New York, metal band whose name joins two words, despair and inspire, and the band’s bio places its sound in the alt-metal genre, with crunching guitar riffs, pounding bass and drums, and melodic vocals set against screams. The members name the long tradition of New York heavy metal as their influence, from Biohazard and Life of Agony to Type O Negative, Anthrax, Overkill and Dream Theater.
The band formed in 2015. Guitarist Joey Zampella of Life of Agony brought the group to his Nest studio in Merrick, New York, to record the debut EP, Irritation, released in 2017 through Pavement Entertainment, and the full-length album Rise Up. DESPYRE has opened for Life of Agony, DevilDriver, Death Angel, Drowning Pool, All That Remains and Michael Schenker, among other acts.
The lineup is Rob Malvagno on vocals, Brad Maestro and Dennis Gaudio on guitars, Kevin Cassidy on bass and Bobbie Dima on drums. The band is back in the studio on a new release, and its single Lose It streams on Spotify and Apple Music.
